@shrinkrap is so right! You will see. We got one back after nearly 13 years gone, plus her two dogs. They stayed for about a year. We see both DD’s frequently now, and it’s fun. You’ll settle into a new normal soon, but it is very different at first.

I think the “intermittent” will be the norm for us at least for a while. Kids 3, 4 are in colleges only about 2.5 hours away so they can come home some weekends. Daughter 2’s engineering job is only about 2 hours away as well (she was here this past weekend).
Daughter 1 and hubby are about an 8 hour drive away but pregnant and starting to look at engineering jobs in our area and in his parents’ area (about another 5 hours West of us). So they may be closer once her maternity leave is up, and if they both find jobs here. Unfortunately, while there are a lot of engineering jobs in the general area, we’re an hour North of the local metro area and many of them are concentrated down there. Still, there are quite a few outfits up here in the `burbs that employ engineers of various flavors, so there’s reason for some optimism.
Well I hope everybody lands where you can see them on the regular, especially with a grand baby in your future - congratulations!
We still cook for most holidays, and the family celebrations. After getting used to more scaled back cooking for just the two of us, and the ability to not cook or go out spontaneously, we are sometimes tired after having them over, in a very good way. So now it just seems normal when they leave after the get togethers. Oh, and they usually bring an appetizer, side or dessert, which is appreciated.
I’m very sorry to hear that. I received the same diagnosis (triple negative in my case) in late March and was terrified. Thankfully caught at a very early state, and with radiation treatment we are hopeful to have blasted TF out of it. I was also both shocked and relieved to find out just how many of my friends and acquaintances had breast cancer, and that they all survived & are living full lives <3
