What's for lunch? (2025)

That’s still pretty decent for hospital food. Which reminds me of this lil ditty by one of my favorite bands:

I didn’t even take a picture.
I have sung the praises of chuck eye roast in the past - all the tenderness and flavor of prime rib for cheap!

Well, I roasted one yesterday exactly as I always prepare them, and sliced into it for a late lunch.

It was godawful. Tasted like cotton, or worse.. full of connective tissue (TBH they all are, but nothing like this was). A completely miserable experience. I chucked the rest (pun intended) - it was unsalvageable. Which proves to me that ultimately it’s the quality of the particular cut of beef that matters. And buying pre-wrapped is a crapshoot.

Oh, no! Hate it when that happens :frowning:

Think I’ll have lunch delivered today.

I’m perusing menus now. I’m thinking Indian. Two restos nearby.

Chicken Piccata Meatballs in wonderfully lemony sauce with capers. Served over tri-color rotini, easier to eat than egg noodles. Red grapes on the side.

A rather fantastic “Tavern Club” from our local Honeybaked Ham branch — which is rather ironic, given my recent chain rant*

BUT we found ourselves sans any sammich fixins in the fridge for our road trip, and we were hongry.

It’s run by peeps I know (one of my friend’s kids works in the kitchen) & they do a fab job with their sanguiches: a perhaps not surprisingly generous amount of HAM, turkey, melted cheddar, crispy bacon, tomatoes, lettuce, and less mayo than it looks.

Excellent choice. The BBQ pulled pork sammie with spicy pickle was good, too.

*Or not, since this was far from mediocre :upside_down_face:

Chicken salad with gherkins, caper, olives and herbs on yellow tomatoes. Tuna salad with spicy chilis , red tomatoes, and toast from homemade bread. Just a few more FM tomatoes left .

Lunch with my friend at a Mexican place on South Street she really likes. I think she mostly chose the place for convenience, as it is right across the street from her pad :woman_shrugging:

She got fish tacos, which is the only thing she’s ever gotten there and loves,

whereas I was in the mood for carnitas that were unfortunately terribly mediocre: flavorless, somewhat dry meat with several sizable chunks of fat.

I mean…. I’m 100% German and my carnitas blow these nice Mexican folks’ version out of the water any day. Fer shame!

The “hot” sauces didn’t have a smidgen of heat, not even by a stretch. The only saving grace were the chips that came with the also highly unremarkable guac.

At least my friend paid for our lunch, and I was able to retrieve our mutual friend’s shirts to bring back to him

That’s, like, 1.5 strikes food-wise so far. Meh.

Chunt vor. That’s Swiss German for kommt vor. It happens.

Yeah. I’m not too salty about it, since this was less about the food & more about the company,

Ideally, however, the two conflate

Pasta today with many sautéed veggies, cubanelle , Jimmy Nardello peppers, red/yellow tomatoes, garlic and eggplant.
Some hot pepper sausage , homemade ricotta, basil and pecorino found there way into the fixings. Happy combination of flavors.

Lemon tart with raspberries.

That’s a cute lil ghost :ghost:

It is! The resto I bought my lunch from has a pastry counter conveniently located near the door  I had a choice between a ghost, a black cat or a round thing.

Breakfast/brunch/lunch with obstacles.

The banh mi place just around the corner from our hotel I was looking forward to try

happened to be closed until 11/5 :expressionless_face:, so I went to a café where my PIC had a breakfast sangueech yesterday that he liked. The counter person handed me a menu & I sat down. My shades proceeded to fall off the table, with both lenses popping out.

Obviously, they’re cheap-ass shades, but I’ve had them for a while & they also happen to be my favorite-ass shades. I tried to pop them back in (my PIC’s much better at that) unsuccessfully and bent the frame into a pretzel. Take that, shades!

At this point I’d lost my appetite and was feeding on rage. The sandwiches on the menu were kinda expensive, and it was clearly self-serve. F that :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

I went back to the hotel room and ate leftover salad from TUESDAY we brought with us from home.

Which I ate with a coffee cup top bc there were no utensils in the room.

My PIC finally got back from Princeton, and we walked to RTM in the hopes of finding something light — we have a fancy dinner tonight, and it was 3pm already.

Nothing flooted my boot, and we ended up at DSG for an order of spicy pork XLB. Hit the spot, and we’re not too stuffed.

But….. JFC :roll_eyes::roll_eyes::roll_eyes:
