Lunch today was a cauliflower salad with celery, orange pepper, cucumber, piemento stuffed green olives, capers and hbes.
That salad looks delicious! Copying the description for inspiration the next time I need a break from husband’s preferred raw spinach side.
The recipe is from Smitten Kitchen which I have linked if you would like to see the exact recipe.
A BLT in this house is a rarity, but I found myself with some good thick cut bacon, lovely end of summer tomatoes, lettuce, and a fresh boule of Easy Tiger sourdough. Came time to put it all together, but…yikes. No Duke’s mayonnaise! The IB to the rescue. An egg yolk, the juice of a small lemon, a scant tsp. of Roland Dijon, a hearty pinch of Diamond Crystal, a cup or so of peanut oil, and ten seconds later it was ready to spread. Mmmmm.
Got together with one of my gal pals at a local Georgian joint that is famous for its soups. We ordered a bowl of pelmeni and a bowl of beef & spinach soup. The pelmeni were abundant & delicious, and the soup also had carrots & potatoes in it.
The other soup came with a little sleeve of sour cream, which is customarily added. We tried with and without, and liked both versions. I found the beef & spinach soup overall more interesting, with tender shreds of beef and an unusual tart note in the broth.
We also shared the imeruli khatchapuri, which seemed to somehow contain about a cup of melted butter Good, but a bit rich.
We each took home a slice of their cake: chocolate honey cake for my PIC and me
pistachio cake for her.
Nice to hang out.
Looks delicious!
Why not beef tallow?
The bacon fat was right next to the stove, whereas the tallow is still in the freezer
Bet it would be delicious, too!

Today’s lunch was a salade composée using a recipe from one of my Anne Lindsay cookbooks. Anne Lindsay is a Canadian dietician and cookbook author and I collected a few of her cookbooks when I started working since her recipes are easy to make and nutritious. I still use them since I have a few favourite recipes however she’s not big on using herbs or spices and this salad is one of them. I’m not sure if I’d repeat it since it’s too bland looking and bland tasting.
After a strenuous workout on an empty stomach , this was a very welcome redux of last night’s salad. Topped with a fresh HBE & more Ortiz.

Lunch today was a turkey, bacon, mozzarella sandwich.
Sorry about the lighting. The sun casts weird shadows in my apartment… Not optical picture-taking environment.
Gorgeous presentation!
Thanks!
I first learned to cook using her cookbooks!
