Birthday lunch with the fam at our favorite Turkish joint in the burbs.
Adana Kebob, ground veal, bulgur, pickled cabbage, a shit ton of red onion and a grilled hot pepper.
We also had some Baba ganouj and carrot dip) havuç tarator) w/pita. Tasty stuff!
Oh, man! That looks so good! Happy birthday, bruv
Very tasty! It’s on our lunch rotation list, next time I want to try their pide.
We have a Turkish place in town now, but I worry I’d be disappointed by their Adana kebab compared to what we just had in Berlin.
But it doesn’t hurt to have something to look forward to.
Bro, you miss all the shots you don’t take… TOFTT
Tamam! I’ll report back when I do
Curious minds want to know! I have a meetup with a friend pencilled in on Sunday involving a morning museum visit then lunch after. Neither of us have ever had Turkish food before and we’d like to try it. The museum we’re going to is in downtown Ottawa and so far I’ve only found one Turkish restaurant downtown. I found another one a little further south of where we’re going and two Middle Eastern restaurants with a handful of Turkish dishes on the menu. I’d be curious to know how our Turkish restaurants in North America compare to something you’d find in Europe.
There is a Turkish restaurant in the Glebe where the Clocktower used to be… very good!
I have it on my bucket list! I gather you’ve been there before and like it?
Sai ua with sticky rice was lunch today. I tried making the sticky rice with a Thai bamboo steamer / huad that I picked up from a local Asian cookware store this weekend, it worked pretty well.
I’ve been meaning to try that one. Before the Clocktower, there used to be great dim sum place there (Benny Lo). There used to be a really nice Turkish restaurant (Efes), on Laurier West, right across the street from where I worked; had many lunches and dinners there.
Chicken salad on TJ’s brioche, a little sweet for a sandwich, the half sour pickles helped to offset the sweetness.
Double chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and hazelnuts.
Soft shell chicken tacos. The bag of frozen chicken breasts said they could cook from frozen stovetop in 20 minutes, in a skillet with lid on, turning once mid-way. That worked perfectly for 1 and I seasoned with cumin & chili, then sliced thin to make 4 small tacos. Garnished with guac, cooked peppers/onion mix, salsa and cheddar. Dessert was rhubarb upside down cake.
