What's for lunch? (2025)

The mediocre food trend continued today: my former colleague at Fulbright wanted to see us before we left the country, so we met up at a sushi place near her office. We’d met there before a couple of years ago, and when I tried to order sake sashimi I was told that they didn’t have any… um, ok. But they did have pre-cut salmon pieces to slap on nigiri :woman_facepalming:t2:

In any event, it was pretty bad again. I ordered har gow that came in gloopy, thick wrappers with a strange dipping sauce,

my butterfish nigiri were kind of falling apart, so I left the wet rice blobs and just ate the fish, and the salmon & avo maki were entirely unremarkable. I didn’t bother taking a pic.

My dood had a couple nigiri and some fried roll.

That said, it was nice to catch up — if only to commiserate the shit the program has to deal with for obvious reasons. Many a grant cancelled, etc. etc. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

They do what they can with the (now mostly) German resources available to them.

Swung by one of the best coffee places in town for a very good galão afterwards.
