What's for lunch? (2025)

Lunch with our cousin was pleasant enough. My sis & BIL had picked her up at home, and we met up with them at a restaurant at a castle nearby.

My cousin did not want to sit inside, despite it being freaking windy & chilly, bc the dining room is located in the basement, and she loves the view from the restaurant’s garden, from which you can see a pretty lake.

And so we sucked it up for our cousin’s sake, put on our jackets & I wrapped a blanket around my bare legs

The setup in general was really strange — you had to order at a counter outside a small set of steps leading to the basement kitchen, then stuff was brought to the table by the server.

First up, olive ciabatta with … curry butter with raisins. Nope nope nope NOPEEEEEEE.

I had only my second rhubarb spritz of the season (why, lousy!), and ordered the “Spicy Asian shrimp with avocado and orange salad.” The shrimp weren’t spicy at all  — which I admittedly expected to be the case in the Northern German boonies, but the sauce was sweet. Like, very sweet :expressionless:

I managed to brush off most of it, added salt, and enjoyed the avocado slices with the salad garnish & had the orange for ‘dessert.’

Our cousin was very happy with her Geschnetzeltes (sliced beef in gravy),

Look at that face! Ready to dig in

and my sister really enjoyed her asparagus with potatoes, bread crumbs, and melted butter.

Our dudes both got the BBQ burger, which had seemingly an entire pound of sautéed onion on it, and was overdone. Fries were salty, but good.

We dropped our cousin off at her place, as my sis & BIL had to leave to visit his dad.

Trip back was much faster, with far less traffic.

When we were about to get on the subway, a poor woman with a walker tripped leaving the train & face-planted on the platform! :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

A few Samaritans helped her off the ground and were able to get her to a bench. Thankfully, an off-duty nurse happened to show up just a few minutes later. The woman had a bad bruise on her cheekbone and an abrasion  Relieved to see that she was in good hands & being taken care of, we got on the train & made our way home.
