Making use of stuff in the fridge. Leftover salmon to make a salad
Taco truck on Waterloo Road, Stockton, CA. Manned by three charming young women.
Lengua tacos with their “super bomb” hot sauce, sour cream and cheese ($3 each), fried onions, cucumber th, radish, lime and jalapeno on the side.
They laughingly chided me about ordering their hottest sauce, but in fact I added a jalapeno to each one. Delicious!
Wish this sweet place were in my neighborhood.
Spring was worthless and now we are in the grip of a heatwave.
Poached egg, prawn roe covered avocado.
Beetroot “tartare”, in place of raw beef.
Yellow curls are grated salt-cured yolk. On top is confit-style sous vide yolk.
Raw asparagus
Thought I’d made deviled eggs to try out the new mayo.
But the eggs were jammy due to a PC issue at the beginning and my concern about overcooking them… so i topped them with chipotle mayo and wasabi mayo instead.
Ok, so “jammy” eggs are now my favorite thing to eat

Stunning plates!
Tan tan men with a soft boiled egg, recipe from Japanese Soul Cooking by Harris Salat and Tadashi Ono.

Thank you! I’m always learning.
Many years ago I thought it was just ramen or noodle soup when I saw soupy “dan dan mien”. Turned out they made it to their liking.
Would love to return to Sichuan. The Chinese are making it difficult for certain countries due to tit for tat visa policy.
Freezer roulette led to finding an unmarked container of meurette sauce. LUNCH!
Oeufs en meurette, poached eggs served with a red wine sauce, are a favorite lunch or light supper.
I won spin of the wheel this time!
Love love love tacos
Mmm agreed
Oeufs en meurette is popular in Lyon and this region. It’s on nearly every menu (as starter) in Lyon. I remember reading that’s how they repurpose bourguignonne sauce in Burgundy.
Indeed. One of my best compliments was a back hand from DH. I had ordered OeM in Puligny-Montrachet. DH doesn’t care for the dish, so I asked him to try my plate there, thinking it might convert him. He took one bite, shook his head and said, “Nope, it tastes just like yours.”
(Fist pump!)
Just like restaurant, I mean the presentation.
Eating any kind of hot soup these days is far from my mind, even though the heat wave has finally ended. I’ve been eating chilled soups and other chilled foods.
Thanks. July in SoCal is not usually soup weather, but it was overcast all morning and I had tons of carrots to use up. The rest of the pot of soup is already in the freezer.
I was in the middle of cooking when we had a pretty long/big earthquake. I was crossing my fingers that the automatic gas shut off valve did not trigger.
Glad you are OK! I saw it in the news report earlier today.
There was a little tornado here a few weeks back. My small town and the big city right next to us (9km away) were most affected. More than 1000 trees fell down, many were big ones. They fell on houses, road, bike paths, everywhere really. Luckily there are no trees that big within falling distance from my house. It would be terrible… we were away on holiday during the tornado.
Well, weeks later and many fallen trees and branches are still on the ground. The municipalities couldn’t cope with the damages of this scale, according to the government.
A dog walker and my bike for scale. Fallen trees on bike paths are not priority, but cyclists pay taxes also!

OK, to keep it relevant… chilled soup:

We did some grilling for the 4th of July. Cheeseburgers, Beyond Meat meatless cheeseburgers, asparagus that were too thin and kept falling through the grates, hot dogs, bell peppers, portobello mushrooms with pepper jack cheese, gai yang style chicken drumsticks, and raw oysters.
Hope everyone had a good 4th.
