What's For Dinner #96 - the Which Marketing Commercial Month Is It? Edition - August 2023

Organic chicken was on sale at Farm Boy today, so we had a quick lemon oregano roast chicken with rice. Baked at 400 for an hour. I corrected my eggplant and tomatoes from last night by adding mozzarella. My last favas of this year, with peas and beans from the garden. I turned some berries, nectarines and cherries into a Rote Grütze which we had with purchased angel food cake.

Italian bean salad. Haricots verts, cannellini, cherry tomatoes, red onion with a oo&v dressing and topped with salami, cheese and basil. Campari orange-ish.

Pizza and broccoli out. Good – and cheap.

We got over 4" on the Outer Cape in less than 2 hours. Marstons Mills and Barnstable had tornadoes! Who knows what is coming tomorrow. Hope your workplace is settled soon and you’re not too crazy for it.

I’ve become an infrequent wfd poster. I promise we are still eating. I don’t know why I haven’t been joining in the fun. Perhaps it is because we have 4 in the house in the summer, and I typically do most of the dinner work immediately after I stop working (from home), so it is busy and chaos and by the time it’s all done and everyone actually shows up to eat, all I want to do is flop in the chair and not take photos.

Nevertheless, we had a nice meatless dinner today. Enfrijoladas. Corn tortillas, refrieds, over easy eggs, avo, and a bell-poblano-sweet onion relish. I liked the colors on the plate

My PIC was on a day trip to Bremen to meet a fellow researcher. We’d already decided we needed to go back to the dim sum place on the corner for those scrumptious har gow. We each got an order of those, then shared their shu mai (shrimp & pork), and the xiao long bao. The har gow were as fab as the last time, the shu mai def made in house as well, but not as good as others we had. Lastly, the XLB were a little awkward to eat, not having been supplied with a soup spoon on which to rest the plump dumpling while nibbling off the top, and they were also ‘just ok.’

The table behind us got roast duck and fried crab. Might have to go back for that crab :star_struck:

Basic burgers and Dave’s rolls for dinner…busy week with the kitchen and the rain and work.
No pictures of food but the fridge landed.

WOW! I take it the flooding was very location specific. I have family in the area (primarily Boston proper, Newton, Waltham, Arlington and Somerville) and nobody mentioned any flooding issues. Hopefully the next rains will bypass your area.

Beauty!

Forgot to share Monday’s dinner - mapo tofu with ground chicken, garden zukes, and brown rice. I’ve become a convert to brown rice for health reasons as long as it’s cooked in the instant pot (nicer texture).

@LindaWhit, just seeing this now. I am so sorry that you’ll be dealing with what I imagine is major cleanup. Fingers crossed that everything at home remained dry so that you and your feline boyz have a haven from it all.

It seems to have impacted a large swath of Eastern MA. Here are some pics from Boston.com:

I think in some areas there were more locally harsh conditions than others, even within the same community. The article linked includes reports of 3 feet of water on the McGrath Highway (Somerville), as well as flooding in Newton. But, @LindaWhit 's area got it among the worst.

@LindaWhit - I hope you are headed toward better recovery from this at this point! Sending you warm wishes and hopes for more wine in your future!

WOW! I see you started to fill it! Next picture, please, of it filled!

Any tips for cooking brown rice in the insta pot?

I hope all the HOs living in Maui are doing okay. So sad to see the destruction of Lahaina.

If I had a choice of last meal, this would be on of my top contenders.
