:::blink::: :::blink, blink:::
A little kickback to Sly and the Family Stone. But those temps are WAY too freaking cold for July anywhere (except in the Southern Hemisphere!)
All those different flavors in that dish! Summer in the BA with the natural air conditioning, gotta love it!
yep, one of my all-time favorite bands!
weâre supposed to get up to the low 70s later this week - heatwave!
Merci
Itâs been hot AF in Berlin pretty much since our arrival, but I felt like turning on the stove tonight anyway.
First home-cooked meal: bufflo mozz with decent tomatoes & egg tagliatelle aglio e olio. Cheated a bit with the pasta and added frozen herbs for color - they didnât really add much of any flavor to the dish
Another week, another sushi bowl. Canât complain, theyâre pretty delicious.
Tonightâs composition had spicy creamy shrimp, wasabi cabbage slaw (my new favorite way to incorporate wasabi), sesame oil-glazed carrots, and avocado I almost forgot. There was also some asparagus for crunch because I happened upon asparagus yesterday and most of it went into a stir-fry for mom. Oh and furikake. Lots of it, because I ran out of seaweed snacks and forgot to order more.
.
Mom is not a big sushi fan (yet) so the vegetarian option tonight was a stir-fry flavored with ginger, soy, a dash of gochujang, and some mushroom sauce. Veggies were the aforementioned asparagus, carrots, red onion, and cabbage plus paneer that I pan-fried first for some texture. I was a bit worried about whether the flavors woul work, but luckily she enjoyed it and ate well.
.
Last night we had street food made at home â Ragda Patties / Pattice: stewed dried white peas over mashed potato patties, topped with various chutneys, minced red onion, and crunchy sev. No pics because the physiotherapist was really late and we were all starving by the time she left. Also, not enough patties even though mom didnât eat the same dinner as us (I may also have snacked on a few right after they were made, but that wasnât it⌠under-estimation of how many potatoes needed mashing). Mom had toasted homemade bread with an assortment of cheese and avocado salad.
A few nights ago, sis made a delicious Bengali fish curry, the lightest version of the many kinds there are. Mom had the same curry with paneer and pumpkin. Eaten over rice. We had Indian Mackerel in the curry; I havenât eaten it in so long I had forgotten how delicious it is.

Weâre having a miserable summer here on the coast so far. Almost all of May, June, & now July have been like the above weather. Thereâs been one HOT day 88f and maybe a week of sunny days spread out across the last 10 weeks in dribs & drabs
This weather report brought to you by tonightâs dinner:
Roast Chicken, Mashed taters, & something green.
Seriously close to the same near me north of Boston. 99% humididity here. Iâve had a massive headache all day because of this weather.
And like you, have only wanted to make comfort food. Made a big-ass pot of meat sauce yesterday to feed my freezer, and used some of it to make baked ziti for dinner last night (with enough for a couple of work lunches). No green. No crusty roll. No wine. No picture.
Just move to the peninsula - much better weather and still not too far away to reach all the restaurants in SF within a not too long drive
I know, my wine keeps mysteriously disappearing.
Sounds pretty similar to our weather on the Northern California coast. Itâs supposed to get really hot next week which I am not happy about!
This is the weather weâve been dealing with today - rain which has not even touched the humidity. Still, the temperature has not risen above 69F.
So, I made Feijoada de Lulas, a take on the Portuguese bean stew that is flavored with chorizo and squid. I wrote it up on the Portuguese Cuisine of the Quarter thread.
We really liked this and are looking forward to the leftovers for tomorrowâs dinner!
Chopped steak Nâ eggs for dinner.
The chopped steak was actually a burger I had in the freezer, seasoned with S&P + some Montreal steak seasoning, a couple of fried eggs, some cocktail tomatoes drizzled with EVOO and some frozen fries in lieu of bread. A dollop of HP sauce to add some zing!
i love my neighborhood too much. and itâs supposed to be warmer here (in the Mission)!
iâd be happier in the low 70s all year round!
Rosemary-paprika chicken and fries.
Offered by the New York Times as a sheet-pan dinner, I like to make it in a couple of cast iron skillets. I use yogurt instead of mayo with good results. Here with cukes and toms from the summer garden.
Keepinâ it real with my horrendous lack of plating skills.
The sun came out again today. The Pacific Ocean was the most stunning cobalt blue. Dinner was pita stuffed with crumbled falafels, romaine, tomatoes, cucumber, red onion and sweet cherry peppers with creamy garlic dressing. There was wine. Dessert will be jumbo Rainiers.
HmmâŚ
Freezer purge today. It was 90° outside and the time spent in front of the open door was refreshing, to say the least. Dungeness crab quiche (my favorite Sunset Magazine cookbook recipe) made with frozen crab from this past winter and a frozen pie crust that was probably stashed in there about the same time. Had that with scratch made Caesar salad and dressing with dried out, toasted baguette croutons. Thundershowers came in just as I was about to fire up the oven and cooled things down enough to make the kitchen bearable. Yum, no pictutes, sorry.
