What a tough week at work . Incredible traffic this evening . Made it to the brewery for a couple . Then take out tacos from a pop up . Two abodada tacos and one longaniza to go . Won’ t tell you about the rat in my kitchen to boot . That’s a battle . Tomorrow looking forward to the rock crab . Happy weekend to all .

An afternoon trip to the gym left me with an upset stomach from the chicken Cesare salad I had for lunch. Put a damper on my appitite so dinner was a good ole’ can of Progresso Chicken-Rama soup.

Have a great holiday weekend friends! Good eats and drinks!!

So beyond exhausted i may be delusional…
After (another) crazed day at work- short day for every one but us- i left and biked down to tribeca for a wonderful glass of rose with my friends before my mom arrived from the airport. (She is staying at their place since they have a proper spare room and i most very do not)
Another glass of rose on the terrace, then off for japanese. I had a great seaweed salad that was several different types, some chilled spinach with sesame sauce, and grilled tofu veggie dish, with sake and great company
The Mom was thrilled with her soft shell crab and assorted other omni apps they shared, which makes me even more happy

Mmm- soft shells! Enjoy your visit with your Mom!

We had a late lunch Thursday and then I had an appointment after work. My workhome friend opted to skip the manicotti and had a nice green salad topped with chicken salad and tomatoes awaiting me. Perfect for a hot, humid day.

I worked the end of the month Art Walk last night and got in around 10. The Art Walk was a little on the quiet side with people leaving for the holiday weekend (traditional 1st beach trip for this area). Which left me and our guest artist to drink the wine and chat. My work home friend browned the Italian sausage and had the manicotti cooked. This ended up being a very delicious filling. It is rich but not overly and the sausage added a nice textural contrast. The pea appetizer is so fast to make that this would come together quickly even without having the leftover dip.

Leftover manicotti tonight when I get home. Hoping to sand some walls and prep for painting so no idea what I’ll cook for the weekend.

I had a late breakfast at Waffle House last week. An older man was at the booth next to me wearing a Korean War Veteran ball cap. Three different men approached him during my meal to thank him for his service. It was really nice to observe the exchanges. Such a change from the '70’s when there was so much backlash to military service. Whether or not we agree with the politics these folks still put their lives on the line for their country. It was heartwarming to see people acknowledging this in a such a personal way.

Took my sweet time on this unexpected beautiful day: Steamed crab claws. Eaten with a tomato salad, sauce is chopped parsley and capers.

In northern Europe this species is known as brown crab or North Sea crab. Could have local/regional names depending on specific locations. Where I am it’s “North Sea crab”.

This is exactly 1kg (eur. 6,00)

Those are STUNNING. And delicious, I expect!

Thanks, Biondanonima! Yes, it was yummy! In German you say this with a big grin “Genuss macht glücklich” (enjoyment makes happy, literally).

I used to be terribly allergic to this crab’s protein. After almost 20 years I decided to give it another try now that I no longer have allergic reactions to certain foods like blue cheese and raw peppery greens. Years of very expensive allergen immunotherapy did work. 2 weeks ago I tried 1 claw for the first time, waited and waited but allergic reaction at all. Nothing. Tried another claw again last week, same thing. I’m chuffed to bits now. More meals with crab meat on the horizon for sure.

To a taco neophyte, can you 'splain, @emglow101?

Today’s hot weather called for the A/C to be turned on for the first time this season, and for something cool for dinner - chef’s salad. The only “cooking” I did was boiling the eggs and cooking the bacon.

Lettuce, ham, Swiss cheese, tomato, hard boiled egg, and BACON. Homemade honey-mustard dressing. Healthy, right?

Oh, wait. There were two vodka & lemonades. OK, maybe not that healthy. But it all tastes really good!

Outlander, S2, Ep. 8 on the tube tonight.

The abodada is small pieces of pork cooked in red chilies . I don’t know which kind . not spicy . The longoniza is a garlic and spice sausage with chilies also I had to google it myself . Always enjoyed it . Just knew it was pork .

I’m skeptical about fresh tomatoes on the east coast until july/august but i’ll give these a try! At this point i am desperate for even a half decent fresh tomato…!
