What's For Dinner #83 - the I Scream, You Scream Edition - July 2022

Pizzas?

Please don’t ask me what this is.

My in-laws made it, and did not have time to inquire.

Ok, ok, ok, … I just really didn’t have the gumption nor bravery to ask.

Nice to walk out at 5pm today. I was one of only two left at that time. Summah fever has hit hard!

Back to my regularly scheduled Friday night dinner…steakhouse steak tips with Ballymaloe steak sauce, baked tater with TPSTOB, and green beans.

No sour cream, but Fage 5% yogurt stood in quite nicely.

Wine.

Been quite a while since I cooked anything that was sharable  … I took today off & then ran across a Tian recipe and had local veggies in the fridge. This requires a substantial rag to eat as one’s main with bread & it was wonderful.

Yep

Mrs. P made a delicious baked whole red snapper stuffed with fresh herbs, garlic, capers, and vermouth combination. It was very fresh and moist. She also made guacamole and we had crispy TJ’s sweet potato fries (not pictured). It went great with an excellent Amarone.

Tsukune-inspired, Japanese-style meatballs. Roasted sesame green beans from the garden. Steamed rice.

I had intended to cook the meat yakitori style on the grill, but ultimately decided to go with roasting and finishing off under the broiler. No skewers involved. I also intended to make these 100% chicken, but having pulled the wrong box out of the freezer, they ended up being 70/30 pork/chicken. No harm done there, in any case.

With thanks to fellow HO member @saregama for some quite useful links, these came out very good. I will happily make again.

Woks of Life Cantonese braised beef shank & daikon i made last month, pulled from the freezer. BF made yummy sweet sticky rice to go with. This was a great combo, I need to make more and keep some in the freezer at all times. Perfect for a chilly day like today (sorry everyone, summer in SF!) And the BF’s nice little salad of odds and ends from the veggie crisper.

In Pittsburgh on a road trip. Stopped into Beto’s Pizza to try Ohio Valley style pizza (aka the McDLT of pizza -hot crust and sauce, cold toppings and unmelted cheese). Good at first, bad by the end, and fucking weird from start to finish.

Outside on the deck . It’s a cool 88 degrees from a 102 this afternoon. Pork ribs of the traeger. German potato salad with coleslaw. I feel like I’m at the beach . No shoes no shirt on the deck . I’m not going to cook on the stove on this wonderful hot evening . Cheers .

Fresh tagliatelle with Rao’s marinara and sausage, with tomato and broccolini and Kewpie sesame dressing. And wine.

Mixed fried shellfish (shrimp, scallops and oysters), cod, haddock (no photo), calamari (no photo) and coleslaw from my favorite fish & chips shop in London, Ontario.

I thought we had leftover roast potatoes from Thu, so I ordered no chips for the first time ever, then found out we had only 2 pieces roasted potato left over. Added pickled beets, green salad, local corn and canned Heinz curry baked beans (a UK import) as sides at home to round out the meal.

Leftover blackcurrant clafoutis and one slice of leftover bumbleberry pie for dessert.
