Interesting chef idea too. Your meal looks delicious.
Oh nice! We went to NOLA for Xmas a few years ago and Cochon Butcher was one of the places on the list that we didn’t make it to. So much food so little time.
That’s a good man.
Should have taken a pic, but didn’t; dinner last night was Ina Garden’s Beef Bourginon, served over mashed potatoes, with a crisp garden salad to go with.
The Beef B was made and given to us by DD2 and SIL - it’s what they made for Thanksgiving, and we had put ours in the freezer.
Anyway, great recipe, and it’s always nice to eat someone else’s good food, in this case, our son-in-law’s cooking.
So very true, but now I make it a habit to go and buy stuff to take home. they’ll shrink wrap and freeze most of their meat products, and flying to CA, we just pick it up on our way to the airport.
Thank you. It was a fun exercise. Maybe there’s a HO thread somewhere in there…
This is a great idea! We had such a great time and are hoping to make another trip sometime after the dread is over.
Damn spell check - typed Ina Garten in post above!!
@TheCookie, and @mariacarmen: your talk of NOLA has me reminiscing about two of the trips I’ve made there in recent history. A very fun trip in 2015 with DD2, but not time enough to do all we wanted, especially the restos. But that’s what’s fun about travel, you can always go back!
Anyway, returned in 2017, and had strategically planned to go to Cochon, among other places. Instead I was sick, and in the hotel room while H carried on with his conference, field trips, and dining out. He brought Cochon leftovers back one night, and I ate some of them. Really good, and he enjoyed it too. Aside from Drago’s for oysters one night, a po boy for lunch, and a good Eggs B for brunch, that was the extent of it. Very disappointing! I also remember @mariacarmen posting about being sick on her trip there last year. I could so relate…
Anyway, am highly motivated to go back, once I unground myself to fly again…I do love that city.
same - can’t wait to go back When This Is All Over.
and yes, your memory is correct - sick as a dog and also a bunch of places either closed or ran out of food! definitely need a do-over.
It’s a shame to be so sick and away from home, while also missing out on the delights and adventures of destination. Yeah, I’d like to forget about that trip, couldn’t even drink out of souvenir mug for longest time @mariacarmen.
At least going back is something to look forward to.
Mostly the same snacks tonight - minus the cheeses and soup, plus white cheddar Cheez-Its, grape tomatoes, and veggie meatballs in a mix of bbq sauce, A1, and apricot jam. Different friends.
DH insisted on ordering Chinese later -two “snack” meals were tok many .
And the takeout was pretty poor.
I parsed your sentence incorrectly. I must say, the single dish named above (as misinterpreted by me, that is) is worthy of study.
Maybe it would be called “Ferran Adrià, Age 4”
that sounds awful
Potato sausage in onion . Sunny side up egg . These potato sausage are very rarely made . Local butcher from Germany. Makes his own sausage . Happening to be driving by outside of town. Stopped in . There they were. The myth , the holy grail . Tasted like no other . I’m heading back tomorrow for more if there is any left. Merry Christmas. ! Cheers 20201223_204042|393x700
From the picture I’m guessing it’s implied that they are pork and potato, not potato only? That does sound good …
Pork sausage involved. I believe . Not on the label. I have never encountered such a smooth buttery texture in a sausage . I have had many in Austria and Germany. The subtle spicing . I cant guess one . I’m driving the 20 miles tomorrow. To see if there are more .
