The classic Sichuan dish “Ants Climbing a Tree” (also known as “Ants Climbing a Hill”). Someone with an abstract sense of humor must have created this dish, seeing the minced pork as ants and the noodles as branches. Nevertheless, I have seen @paryzer post pictures of this many times and since no restaurants around here have it, I decided to make it myself. My coworker who is Chinese hooked me up with some spicy fermented Chili bean paste which is integral to the recipe. The preparation was extremely easy by Asian cooking standards. The taste was phenomenal, even though the consistency was a little wetter than I expected (I have read there are wet and dry versions so this isn’t exactly a mistake). We still ordered Chinese takeout beforehand just in case and we will use this as the appetizer since it is not very filling.

Here it is. Followed to the letter except I doubled the amounts:
Thanks!
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads and positive male figures in our lives!
Dinner was italian takeout for FD.
I finally seared a duck breast I had cooked sous vide weeks ago and frozen - for lunch, alongside an odd lunch of fondue. My first home attempt at duck.
I also made a caramel custard in honor of my dad, because it’s his favorite dessert. More caramel than mom’s, because I always wanted more!
Made Thai green coconut chicken curry with homemade green curry paste and lots of veggies. Took the skin from the chicken thighs, fried and then crumbled them over the curry. Over jasmine rice (out of basmati!) Could have been way spicier, so we added roasted dried Thai chili flakes at the table. Green curry paste was full of lemongrass, garlic, ginger, fresh turmeric, bell pepper, scallions, and chilies, but could have used lots more heat. Still, very fresh & bright tasting.
Pok Pok ribs (Sii Khrong Muu Yaang) are marinating for tomorrow night’s dinner.
Nope. Low temp cooking in the oven only.
LOVE Pok Pok & very interested to hear the outcome on the ribs @mariacarmen. Is the green curry paste a Pok Pok recipe also? It all looks delicious, except for the ribs we haven’t seen yet. Something to look forward to!
Boy, that’s pretty!
So many great looking meals posted! This time of year, I tend to prefer cold, simpler meals on the fly. Baking on the occasional cooler days. Yesterday we enjoyed a melon salad and cocktails. Tonight, shrimp cocktail and a few more cold app’s. Peach Sangria if I can land some juicy fruit.
Thanks. Definitely going to try.
Brilliant! It is all about the sell! I love this story! My toddler used to eat broccoli voraciously but lately has been turning her nose up at it. BUT, if she picks it herself straight from the garden she will eat a whole head raw
Ah I’m so behind!
I made this seared scallop dish over brown basmati and a ginger cucumber onion salad. I thought it was interesting. My husband gave it a thumbs sideways ha!!!
Last night made these beautiful ny strip steaks for my husband’s father’s day meal. Sides of sweet potato fries, broccoli, mushrooms and more lettuce from the garden. Thumbs up on this one. Making dinner was a challenge after drinking a bottle of wine with a neighbor
Wow … Gorgeous kit kat !!!
And splendid dishes too …
Thank you
Here’s the recipe I mostly follow:
When I told her I was going home to make dinner, her face was incredulous! “YOU ARE GOING TO COOK… NOW???”
Worth waiting for.
Looks Like a gorgeous Dinner
Expectations are everything
