What's For Dinner #57: The Keep On Keepin' On Edition - May 2020

Not dinner, but a snack/app. The things you remember after an afternoon gin & tonic: “There’s frozen homemade dumplings in the freezer from a few weeks ago!”

What a fortunate thing to remember. Dumplings = happiness

Dinner was octopus again, this time stir fried with Korean chili paste Gochujang, with fried rice: leaves and stalks of cauliflower, egg, shallot, garlic, ginger, wine, coriander, fish sauce, chili.

Thai mango sticky rice. No I didn’t eat this in the linear fashion as presented here, instead the mango rice was a late breakfast.

Damn right. It was like Christmas morning going through the freezer knowing they were in there.

I could eat just this, but I guess it’s not what’s for dinner for most.

This year’s first hot and spicy hyderabadi tomato chutney from

I LOVE this stuff! I plant several paste tomato plants, so that I can make it all summer.

What a cutie - love him @naf! Is he a mouser or hunter? If not Molly, being an apex predator can teach him! In fact, she’s a serial killer now. I won’t let her out at dawn or dusk, her two favorite hunting times.

Grilled tuna steak with this festive mint/parsley/basil/olive tapanade thing. Sides of grilled asparagus (a few meager Spears from my own garden needed to be supplemented with store bought), quinoa and my faux foccacia. This is my normal sandwich bread recipe which just didn’t really rise so I improvised. Came out super delicious actually. I had intended to give this loaf away so I’ll try again in the morning.

I made grilled Italian sausages (the good stuff), Smitten Kitchen’s one pot tomato farro simmered with a Parm Regg rind (OMG delicious) drizzled with basil oil, and CSA beet greens and baby spinach sauteed with shallot. Really good.

I decided to be “fun mom” and set up a messy crafty dessert.

Thanks! Neither, he is excited for 2-3 minutes when he saw a pigeon next to him but no action. Rather, he is a charmer and seducer. He understands that food given by human is more delicious than those wild hunt. He prefers to go and knock on people’s door and ask for food! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Wow! Maybe she should wear a bell, to avoid massive killings.

First dinner on the deck this season. A burger and a beer. I was planning on making a traditional cole slaw but had some cilantro that needed to be used up so went Thai-ish.

I should have taken a walk today.
Because it was SO nice out.
I didn’t…I slept in.
Then I read.

I should have done some invoicing work today.
But I didn’t.
Because I read.

I should have updated my old desktop to Windows 10.
But I didn’t.
Because I read.

All I accomplished was a load of laundry, emptying the cat litter, and making some chicken stock in my crockpot.

Fuckit, said Scarlett. There’s always tomorrow.

Dinner was a large bone-in pork chop, seasoned with olive oil, s/p, and Penzeys Tsardust Seasoning, pan-seared, then finished in the oven. A pan sauce of reduced pork stock in the sear pan, mounted with butter.

Sides were roasted Herbs de Provence potatoes and steamed broccoli, and homemade Triple Apple Applesauce.

Yes, there was wine.
