What's for dinner? #5 - Jan 2016. The Happy New Year Edition

I fixed these panko-crusted pork chops last night and they were super. VERY moist. Along with baked potato and stir-fried “French” green beans from Costco. Crummy photo

Oops, forgot the link!

Ahh, Phu Quoc. I spent a week there and loved every minute.

No internet can be nice - but my friend is a programmer working from home and somehow copes with Internet that runs at the speed of molasses. I would’ve tearing my hair out.

It was about as good as it looks…

For us, that’s PERFECTLY cooked. Do you use any particular technique?

Sorry to hear that Robin. Hope your treatments help you ASAP so you can get back in the kitchen as before.

Hope you’re feeling better soon, Robin. The crud has been bad this year, and it hangs on forever.

Stir fry at my house tonight. I’m just now getting back to the kitchen after my bout of crud. the cough will not go away…I think if you cut me right now, I would bleed cough syrup.

@Boyzoma Your chili looks great, don’t you mean “cannellini,” not cannelloni? I think someone else, maybe @NotJrvedivici makes the same spelling error (which results in a food item that is completely different than a bean). I am, admittedly, a spelling cop. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Thank You

Thanks !

Left over Sonny’s BBQ brisket and mashed potatoes. Kosher brisket that would rival wagu.

App of Buratta with variety of baby tomatoes and garden basil.

Been coughing since Thanksgiving. Mostly just morning now so I can cook more/better.

I had some aging buratta a while back. Put in the ‘bottom’ of a pasta bowl and added the rest. Yowza, was that ever good

An experimental night here tonight. I’m trying to use some sorrel up from the garden and found a recipe for a white peach and sorrel salad that looked ok. I’m riffing on it slightly and adding some fried haloumi with some chilli flakes sprinkled on them. Balsamic and possibly honey to dress it depending on the sweetness of the peaches.

I’m also trying skirt steak for the first time. My parents gave me some weird sort of tabletop bbq thing for my birthday that has a fan in it that fans the charcoal - an infomercial purchase so we’ll see if it lives up to the 20 minute sales speel. Apparently it gets to a high heat super quick so I’m hoping that will cook our steak to a nice medium rare.

There’s a pile of baby potatoes to be used if I can be bothered making a potato salad.

Wow, you have Hmong there! That’s cool. I didn’t know they’d migrated there.

Gawd. Where do you live that you get great tomatoes this time of year? TJ’s burrata was winking at me today, but I see no point… unless I find a good method to roast tomatoes in such a way they don’t turn to mush.

Jelly, either way.

Don’t knock those tabletop grills before you tried them. I have fond memories of xmas eves spent sitting around the grill with a variety of meats & seafood and any number of dips. You can turn 'em off when you’re ‘done’… and turn them on a couple hours later if you feel like seconds

That peach and sorrel salad sounds better with your riffs, frankly.

I rarely post here because DH is not into good food and so I usually don’t cook for me I cook for him and the food is boring. Tonight I made pork chops the only way he likes them, boneless :sob:, pan fried in olive oil and butter with S&P and a lite coating of wondra.
I’m posting pics because the color I got on them tonight was so nice … The photos were taken before I plated and when he was finished…sides saffron rice and a green salad are not pictured because I torture him enough when we are out with the picture taking. I cooked the rice with the tiniest bit of saffron, otherwise he would not have eaten it.
How did I end up with this man!

Upthread I posted a link to a recipe for panko-crusted pork chops. It should work great for that chicken also. Just a thought.

Last night’s dinner was a few pieces of TJ’s tomato & brie tart that my darling had saved for me in case I stopped in during a work slump, as well as some leftover chili once I was home for good. There might have been a couple of slices of TJ’s pastrami salmon, too. What can I say – dinner’s in bits & pieces these nights.

Today, my man woke me up & carefully broke the news of “someone else you really liked, died”. RIP Alan Rickman, another talented, memorable voice. Sigh.

Dinner was a late one: lazy lobster bisque from Wegmans (this might actually be their best soup, period), fattened up with a buncha shrimp thrown in at the end until just cooked thru. More TJ’s green dragon drizzle.

Side was a winter salad I grew up with: Belgian endive & tangerine in creamy lemon dressing. The key is lots of freshly ground black pepper. This is one of the few salads I like that contain fruit. Sometimes I think blue cheese might be a good addition, but I can never make myself mess with it. Paid near $12 for a little over 2 lbs. of that precious, precious endive. Da foque!

Yes, digga, you are correct. Thanks for pointing that out. I’ll try to live up to your standards “more better” next time.
