I did not! Not sure what happened there.

And I don’t know what happened to the last smoked pork picture. I think I tried to correct the response and add the picture at the same time.

That’s exactly what they do in Boston for Independence Day! They have been doing the 1812 Overture since 1974, along with the church bells and the fireworks. Started here with Arthur Fiedler.

Linda I was there in 1976 , the 200th anniversary visiting with a friend who had finished college and staying on for grad work…(we saw Arthur, albeit from a distance) VERY MEMORABLE, brought goose bumps to my neck…
The night or two before we ate at the “no name” , that was my first time… great weekend!

All cold food all the time here.
This was a bit of whatever i found in a bowl- chickpeas and corn with too much red onion, olives and cilantro. There’s some barley in the bottom from a big batch i cooked a while back and stashed extras in the freezer. Added some kimchi vinaigrette after the photo

Low key 4th of july for me- went to a late afternoon park picnic, I’m one of the few single people without kids in my social circle now (and i am so very OK about that!) so we ate somewhat early to accommodate the kids. I was full and tipsy and home before 8pm! :joy:

I brought watermelon wedges and a mayo free potato (yukon gold) salad, there’s several anti mayo friends. Not much to look at, i added plenty of salt and sprinkled with vinegar when they were still warm. Added a dijon vinaigrette and some of TJs everyday seasoning. Brought a separate container with some chopped celery and scallions that i added at the park.

More watermelon happening here today after a long hot bike ride it really hit the spot. TBD what dinner will be- tofu something and whatever veg look good at the corner store

Always soggy. Just what happens with so many frozen veg in my experience. I’ve even tried a few different stir fry frozen veg brands and aside from water chestnuts it’s too mooshy for me

That sounds fantastic! I actually found a great ginger beer at whole foods of all places, from 365 brand. Not as intense as Fever Tree though

Love it! Bollywood unites…

Years ago I was on a group trip to Yosemite with some Eastern European tourists. They didn’t speak much English, but were very excited to sing some Raj Kapoor songs to me - apparently Hindi films were some of the only outside entertainment available to them, so they had them pretty much memorized (better than I did!)

And in college, before the days of subtitles, if I ever rented a Hindi movie, the common room was sure to fill up… a room full of non-speakers insisted they were following the story, and we only paused a handful of times for explanations - usually when a song had broken out, and they couldn’t figure out what it had to do with what went before or after  (for anyone who hasn’t watched a Bollywood film - “nothing” is the answer).

Trying out my new air fryer tonight on some chicken cutlets. Wish me luck!

You have lots of good child friends you can enjoy, even babysit for, then go home, sleep when you want, and eat what you want and wake up when you want! Sounds great!

reminds me I’m going to need to introduce my son to Bollywood films! We just started West Side Story and he said, at least the songs and dances aren’t “a propos of nothing.” He’s thinking more of Sound of Music and the first Mary Poppins, he loved Fiddler on the Roof…Eastern Europe was so restricted, no “Western” influences until the Soviet Union split up. I lived in Spain early 80’s. Franco was long gone, TV restrictions were still there…everything dubbed, subtitles not permitted because of the long ago prohibition of Spanish regional languages.

We had an excellent dinner at Le Salbuen in Montclair, NJ. We shared several appetizers including a literal flaming chorizo sausage that came out on fire. It had a nice char and snap to it. We also had awesome duck tacos with purple kimchi, in a cilantro lime emulsion. Our 3rd appetizer was a crispy short rib and blue cheese empanada.
For entrees I had the fork tender braised duck frites with kimchi, Parisian carrots, onion, tomato, in a Chianti gravy. Mrs. P had Asian crusted sweet potato with sesame stir fried vegetables, brown rice, and avocado.
It all went great with a 2014 Mas Champart French red blend.

Air fryer chicken cutlets. First time using it. Not as good as fried but much better than oven-baked. Still tweaking the time and rotation inside the fryer. At least they were crispy.

I’ve been thinking about those air fryers Which one do you have?

It is the Chefman 6L Digital Multi Function. It not only air fries, but bakes, dehydrates, and has a rotisserie insert as well. Did some experimenting tonight. Aside from the chicken, frozen French fries came out perfectly (when used in a rotating basket insert) while fresh-cut potato chips cooked all the way through but did not crisp in the same amount of time.

Okay. I would love to use it for a fried chicken stir fry, like General Tso.

In the meantime, steak and corn salad.
