Gorgeous!
Chilly and grey day, put together a quick soup- onion, garlic, tomato paste, chopped tomatoes, chopped tempeh, thyme, italian seasoning, and some corn. Bit of scallion on top.
Huge pear that matched my soup mug on the side- except that while i thought it was ripe it was actually just soft. And kind of grainy. And flavorless.
Harumph. Gave up on it (will just toss into my juicer with everything else for my green juice tomorrow)
There’s a big honeycrisp i’ll have later with my tea
Happy Belated Birthday to you!
Drool! Those tomatoes!!
That’s ONE giant one! So tasty…
Got 20 lbs of apples on Sunday. People will think my favorite fruit is mango or banana or grapes. But by far apples are my favorite. And when it’s peak apple season, I am like a kid in a candy store. I have a serious problem. I ate 8 apples yesterday. Not small ones either. When some are super excellent – like the Macouns, Arkansas Blacks, and Mutsus I had this weekend – I will eat the core, seeds and all, the seeds often have their own magical flavors. And I swear if the stems were edible, I’d eat those, too. All apples varieties are welcome, I don’t discriminate. One local vendor even has a good version of Red Delicious they mysteriously label as “Apple X”. Anyway, back to yesterday, eight whole apples with cores is definitely too much. I felt ill later. My family is yelling at me the whole time, something about cyanide poisoning, to “spit it out! spit it out!” But I could not. It took me all night to recover. But I ate two more apples today after everyone went to sleep. (But I didn’t eat the cores. I’ll wait a few days.) I love apples.
speedy recovery to you!
Fried chicken with a drizzle of Frank’s red hot , mashed potatoes , broccoli. Wine to drink .Cheers.
Home after the BF’s nephew’s wedding in Long Beach (CA). Had a great time. Ate and drank too much (had some wonderful So. Cal. Mexican at a favorite place when I lived there), so dinner last night was nada, and tonight was a a freezer pull of turkey guisado I made back in July. BF made rice with it, and pan fried zucchini. Homey goodness.
and now i’m out every night again until Sunday! i’ll be watching all the delicious things you all make in your kitchens, though…
Was Sergio Penuelas cooking your favorite So cal Mexican food. His food is incredible. Nayarit style seafood. Famed for Mariscos Chente . He does move around alot.
Ummmm… that’s a lot of apples for one day!! Yikes! And the core and seeds?? You’re intense.
Curious, was the bread a crispy baguette?
Perfect for me, gives me idea to make something similar for a quick lunch one of these days!
Do you peel? or eat the skin too?
You know it has been at least 5 years since I have had a banh mi so this could absolutely be standard fare. These slices were ENORMOUS. At least 1/2 in in diameter and 1/4 in thick.
Interesting. I dont recall having any issues but it could have been a matter of who prepd the kitchen that day. Next time I will be more aware.
Yes, naf. I really liked the bread.
Standard fare with all Banh mi here in both Flushing & Elmhurst…I expect them, and if they are too hot for me or the Mrs. we take them out. In fact one of the places we go to, soaks the peppers in some warm water first, to take down the heat level a bit.
In Vietnam, I didn’t come across a banh mi with slices of jalapeno pepper. They proposed hot sauce there. Bird eye chillies in pho or other food.
I eat the skin, too, of course. If I am making mini-apple pies, I will even leave the skin on for my pie. It can be difficult to eat that way, but it tastes better.
