I was searing my gorgeous king trumpet mushrooms with a bit of (vegan) butter and soy and then had a heart attack when the freaking smoke alarm went off- which i am sure people can hear a block away!- then proceeded to burn my thumb on the hot pan trying to get it off the stove while grabbing my step stool to get to the stupid alarm.
And i would do it all over again!! Love the chewy texture on these.

Sides of sliced smoked tofu and kombucha. Followed by…
yup

There is always cooking involved in this Korean drama series . And a recipe at the end that you’ll have to figure out . Of course with subtitles .

Here’s a watermelon I picked before I left;

Tiny but good.

Here’s what’s for breakfast.

I went as a relatively inexperienced 20-something traveler and even I found the main drag full of tourist traps. I recall meandering up the hills and finding a lovely vegetarian place owned by very kind people who guided me through the menu in their broken English. And everything was delicious in the way that wonderful and simple Greek food can achieve (fresh ingredients; little manipulation, letting the food shine on its own). But that was many moons ago. :speak_no_evil:

Have a great time!

@ChristinaM I think it was your opened face chicken kiev Im making for dinner. Breaded in panko and pan fried with a small amt of avocado oil last night. Have Jarlsberg and Virginia ham at the ready. Still considering sides.

the many things we ate this weekend…
oysters, martinis, wedge salad (friday night, at a bar in the little town of Stinson) with an unpictured but very decent burger, accompanied by a jazz combo.

Saturday lunch we had more oysters and bubbles (or, I did. the BF had a beer) and split a very non-authentic club sandwich that was actually a BLT with avo and onions on a brioche bun. ??? tasty, but don’t call it a club. BUT the oysters were served with tobiko!

Dinner Sat. night was the star of the show. I brought a pre-brined Trader Joe’s MONSTER pork chop (almost 3 lbs!) and rubbed it with a smoky bourbon paprika, a smoky bourbon sugar, and a habanero sugar. BF grilled it, along with a bunch of veggies. turned out excellent - super juicy and flavorful thru and thru. we barely made a dent in it and the BF made tacos with another tiny piece of it when we got home yesterday.

I also found a wonderful quince shrub in town and made a fantastic cocktail: quince shrub, St. George’s terroir gin, muddled fresh rosemary, a chunk of jalapeno, and a habanero sugared rim. went down way too easy. i bought a bigger bottle of ginger shrub to bring home.

and the tacos:

very smoky!

there was a lot of lounging, watching of Monty Python, hot tubbing a la moonlight, and bossa nova. a pretty perfect weekend. Thanks for all your well wishes! Our anniversary is actually on Tues. and we’re going out for dinner, because I haven’t yet reached my goal weight, apparently. :stuck_out_tongue:

Still no gas connection :expressionless: my husband made a posole with leftover pulled pork, hominy, spinach and some spicy spices on our new 2 burner hot plate. Perfect dinner on a cool Monday night. Maybe wine later.

Tonight meatballs with chicken pho. (Green peas was there because we need to finish them, lol).

First time home made Shanghainese pork mooncake. They took a lot of time to make, actually it was fun. The folding could be done better at the bottom.

If I will make them again, I will prefer to make the char siu (bbq pork) puff.

We were in Rhodes a few years ago. At that time I didn’t keep tabs of where we ate. But this much is sure: Do not go into any of the places on the main drag wtih touts outside trying to shoo you in. We asked at our hotel where locals go, and they gave us a few good recommendations. We had to take a taxi to them, but it was worth it. So do ask the people where you are staying where they go to eat.
