Dinner tonight - lamb chops (farmers market purchase, beast raised in the county). Simply fried… Chops are kept warm, butter goes in the pan, along with chopped anchovies & sage, then sliced Jersey Royal spuds. Peas & steamed cabbage as the “five a day” contribution.
Lemon posset as the dessert. I’m proud of this - perfect sweet/sharp balance.
roast duck legs , sauce is soy sauce, cider vinegar, garlic and red chili flakes
vege- stir fry red chard in olive oil with shallot, garlic, splash of balsamic vinegar , cider vinegar and soy sauce
side of potato au gratin using buttermilk, reggiano and cheese brought back from Amsterdam
dessert ( I ate part of it before dinner) is mixed berry crumble ( topping is old fashion oat meal, coconut sugar, almond, almond meal, with a little all purpose flour and dehydrated coconut pulsed with a stick of butter)
Last night was out to dinner with a friend, an old favorite, Candle Cafe. We shared the cornmeal crusted avocado tacos appetizer and i had a big fantastic salad with the seitan chimichurri skewers.
It’s been intense and chilly wind and rain all day today! I found decent leeks at the market near me (got home soaked through) and made a potato leek soup with cashew cream and some veg stock i made today too. Glass of wine a la carte.
First sit down meal in new house … which is still a construction zone
Did the best we could with what we have up there at the moment
Everything is disposable with the exception of the CI skillet
Roast beef was overcooked because A. it was cooked in a cast iron skillet, B. it sat in skillet while
I first put out the fire and then fished the asparagus I dropped all over the inside of the oven … an unforeseen event
Back in NY and staying until more work is completed
Made my brunch today while supervising the boyz who were in crazy cat mode, including some batting at each other with their paws. But they settled down. Eggs over easy with minced chives, bacon, and toasted English muffin.
Kept it simple for dinner - Gorton’s fish filets, remoulade of mayo, cocktail sauce, and some apricot dipping sauce (with a bit of extra horseradish in there for a kick), rice pilaf, and leftover veggies.
But the best part of the day was Alfie and Finn finally settling down together and napping together. It was a bit tenuous at first, with some growling as Alfie groomed Finn’s head (along with what I call “picking nits nibbling” which is what Finn didn’t like), but a couple of gentle words from me, and he settled down. And then Finn tucked his head down, Alfie did the same, and they slept together for a long time. This Momma is happy. <3
I made a bolognese today. Inspired by some fresh pasta and fresh mozzarella given to me by a friend that begged for a rich classic and bruschetta was a given for a side. Had to go searching for some better bread than the local grocery Publix. Their bakery ain’t what it use to be
Last few meals have been garbled. A meal at Sarma and then Meju. Way too much restaurant food! So last night I made some Chana Masala and Cauliflower with Black Mustard Seeds and Scallions [Sahni] and ate it with some takeout tandoor Chicken Wings. Lots of vegetables, not so much meat. Perfect. Somehow I didn’t have scallions in the fridge, so substituted some green cabbage which work almost as well.
OMG, they are too adorable. I’m so glad they have become friends so quickly!!!

@chowdom, it’s coming together slowly but surely. Meal looks awesome, despite the slightly overcooked beef.
Thanks for pics of the boys, @LindaWhit. I always look forward to seeing them! We shall see who’s “the boss” (dominant) soon enough
Was in a hurry to go to bed after posting yesterday. Got 2kg of mussels but could only finish 2/3 so I saved the rest (raw) for lunch the next day. I also had leftover picada and tomato sauce and making it again for lunch was very fast. Once the bag is open the mussels can’t be kept for long. Well, I enjoyed them twice. Nothing was wasted.
Green asparagus for a change. Only got it because it’s domestic and young, which I like on both counts. Lamb chops were simply pan fried. Boiled potatoes.
Well my smoke alarm is in working order…!!! Whoopsie. I know i know better but i just stabbed my sweet potato and stuck it in the oven, which meant that the oozing sugary potato liquid burned to a crisp and my apartment was super smokey!
Oh, and then i burned my finger pretty good on that hot potato liquid sugar getting the dumb thing out of the oven.
So, for plan B i mixed up a quick peanut buttery sauce (a little soy sauce, splash of water, black pepper) and pan fried some tofu and some of TJs cruciferous crunch veggies. Topped with the sauce and some chopped scallions
