Woks of Life Chicken larb.. My crispy rice powder could use some tweaking, but maybe it’s because I use whatever rice I have, which is converted.
I had a lot of chicken thighs. Hoping to make crispy skin with the skin tomorrow.

A friend’s son had his first solo performance at a local winery today, and she really wanted me to show up. He had a very nice voice & plays more instruments than I do, and we stayed for a glass of Grüner Veltliner before heeding the call of another buddy for a cocktail HH at his digs, where the rest of our poker gang was already hanging out on the patio. We brought a truffled mousse & a bottle of white to share. There was shrimp & cocktail sauce & cheeses, excellent homemade GF seed crackers, and a hopeful dog cruising the crowd for pity bites.
We had Aldi’s chile lime corn ribs from the AF when we got home
& shared a few barilotti tossed with the lamb & sausage sauce we didn’t have yesterday.
Dat sauce tho!
So much better than the meat slop from last night.
We enjoyed another outstanding dinner at Lula in Ridgewood, NJ, including clam jam; roasted Maitake mushroom; white bolognese; yellowfin tuna belly crudo; apple and kohlrabi salad; excellent foccacia. We took home lemon meringue pie for dessert. It all went great with a couple of excellent cabernets. The menu at the end gives more details.
Plumbers at the house all day finishing up my bath/shower area so didn’t eat till they left. Was ravenous so just threw together a salad.
Wings and salad. Wings were roasted and glazed with a mystery Asian sauce from the fridge. Salad was mixed baby greens, arugula, red onion, carrot, broccoli, cauliflower, cambazola, ranch dressing. There was a martini rocks.
How is the central PA wine?
Steak-frites, Kewpi aioli. I’m giving up on this cut, flap meat. It’s supposed to be another name for bavette, but it’s too stringy and tough. L&W fries were good.
Not bad at all.
(…a complete sentence).
Tonight’s dinner was White Pizza with Shredded Chicken and Onions. Another poster jogged my memory about this pizza, so it was time to make it again.
Pasta alla Carbonara with Spinach based on an essen & trinken recipe - cooking traditionalists will of course clutch their pearls but who wants to cook dishes always the same way. Cooking is about trying out new things. Very good vegetarian version of that classic dish with egg, egg yolk, pecorino, parmesan, garlic and olive oil mixed with pappardelle, pasta water and baby spinach. Finished with some thyme and red pepper flakes
Was there a difference between the crunchy and crispy versions?

I’d love to know as well. I’m in the market for krispy kronchy fish stix — the crispier and crunchier, the better!
There was. The crispy wasn’t as crunchy. But it was the only ones available when I purchased the bag about a month ago. They were good. But the crunchy are better.
The biggest difference is that the Crispy is minced fish
although they DO have whole filets
and the Crunchy are whole fish filets. Get the Panko or Beer-Battered versions.
Grabbed a pepperoni pie from my local joint, $10.99 medium, 8 slices, added some sautéed mushrooms, chorizo, diced tomatoes and pickled jalapeños. Showered with Parm/Regg
The other half is for whenever.
A pretty meh calzone tonight…chopped salami, roasted broccoli, ricotta mixed with Italian seasoning and garlic powder and Parm-Reg, and some mozzarella.
A half ball of pizza dough didn’t want to cooperate, but I managed.
Tomato sauce with extra Italian seasoning and a squidge of tomato paste for dipping.
There was wine.
