WOW! That all looks wonderful.
We did Chinese take out on Sunday to celebrate Lunar New Year and went with a New Orleansish theme for Mardi Gras.
Etouffee and red beans and rice. Mr Bean has been on this weird bay scallop kick and since I could not find crawfish (his favorite) I went with the scallops.
That looks fantastic!
We played our favorite show of the year tonight: our annual Mardi Gras gig at the gay bar. Kinda like playing a home game, since it’s also our preferred watering hole / gathering place for my ladies’ nights — always a happy crowd, fabulous staff, and we sure let the bon temps rouler! The place is always decked out and decorated to the nines! ![]()
Our clarinet/sax sub was a bit nervous, since there were about 12 songs we had no time to run through on Sunday, but this crowd is usually too busy celebrating & having fun to pay attention to minor fuckups, and he did a fabulous job ![]()
I shared the fried oysters with a wonderful remoulade with my PIC, which were delish, but not really enough sustenance to balance the deluge of drinks had — evidenced by his passing out almost immediately when we got home ![]()
Looking forward to a lunch with my widowed ladies at the Turkish resto, and hoping to convince everyone to get their big breakfast spread to soak up the last of the liquor.
Last night’s shrove Tuesday dinner included pancakes, honey pork breakfast sausages and a tomato cucumber salad. I think they forgot to put honey in the honey sausages ![]()
And because I am giving up sweets for Lent
I had a butter tart for dessert. It’s gonna be a long 40 days…
tomato and celery salad
roasted butternut squash
josh mcfadden’s kale salad with lemon and garlic
leftover honey garlic chicken
Out of sheer curiosity, I’ve been tracking my fiber intake for the past week, and trying to reach the RDA. I eat a lot of vegetables every day, but I’ve definitely had to ramp way up to reach the recommended daily intake.
that said, i feel better since i started doing this. so there’s that.
After a lovely, leisurely lunch with friends I had a PT sesh with a thankfully far less bitchy shoulder. I’ll take it. New exercise, too! So exciting! ![]()
I decided to postpone the Tuscan soup planned for tonight bc I’d blanked on taking any of the golden chicken stock out of the freezer, and I’ll also have more time to put it all together tomorrow.
That left a big question mark as to WFD, though. We solved it by ordering takeout sashimi (madai, suzuki, sake, hamachi, escolar) with a side of rice, and a yellowtail scallion roll.
You don’t notice any, um, side effects from escolar?
I’ve heard about that, but from what I gather one would have to eat more than 1.5 slices roughly 2-3 times a month for any side effects.
Nothing bad ever happened to me, either, but I also never had more than three slices at on sitting.
For me the effect was nearly instantaneous (sauteed filet).
I mean… it’s fairly rich as far as fish goes. Not sure I’d even want more than that.
Our favorite sushi place in Berlin has a “Lazy White Tuna” on the menu, which is deep-fried chonks of it with a fantastic seasoned panko breading and an addictive sauce (mayo, probz hoisin or some such). We love it, but we only ever get it if we have another eater to share it with. It’s that filling.
Oof. Sorry. Everyone’s gut is different!
Tonight I made pizza beans with homemade marinara and TJ’s jarred Bolognese, chickpeas and white beans, seared chopped broccolini and julienned zucchini, fresh mozz, and red pepper flake. Hit the spot.
Avocado sandwich for dinner because I had my salad at lunch. The mountains after last night’s howling winds, rattling windows, and driving rain!!
I guess there is a reason why escolar is banned in Japan and Italy
