Good timing! I’ve got a quiche on the weekend menu!
First work week of the year down.
Let’s see how the rest go. ![]()

Was going to make a burger, but I’m trying to eat a little less red meat, and the duck and pork at New Year’s was enough for now.
So an easy pivot to Gorton’s Extra Crispy fish filets on a Vienna roll with lettuce and lemon-garlic aioli, and LW fries and ketchup. They both bake at the same temp for almost the same amount of time on the same baking sheet. Easy-peasy lemon-squeezy. Wasn’t the most imaginative dinner, but it filled the belly.
No wine. Didn’t feel like it.
Those fries look perfect! LW really is the best frozen fries brand ![]()
Felt like another pasta dinner tonight — more pacifically, paccheri ai sugo d’agnello e funghi.
I meant to try one of the new pasta shapes I bought yesterday at Ocean State Job Lots, but I already had an open bag of paccheri, which were kinda the perfect foil for a sawce made with local ground lamb, sliced urrster shrooms fried up in the lamb fat, finely chopped garlic, diced onion, celery & red pepper, a chopped Serrano pepper, toasted tomato paste, a splash o’ Zweigelt, and the last of the pizza sauce I made last week. Also crushed rosemary, thyme & oregano. Finished with a teeny splash of heavy cream.
Heaven. One of the best pasta dishes I’ve made in recent memory, and I’d have paid good money for it at a restaurant. Good thing I didn’t have to ![]()
Insalata di rucola ai limone e Parmiggiano Reggiano on the side,
and a lively German Zweigelt that paired well with the pasta.
We didn’t get enough mac & cheese over the holidays, so here we are again. Made a tossed green salad in vinaigrette with dried cranberries and candied pecans to go with.
I had a late lunch so not very hungry. Pizza and NYT Italian broccoli salad. Marinara, mozz, Italian sausage, onion, garlic, baby bells, rpf, mushrooms and basil on a Stonefire crust.
About 2 weeks ago, I had asked Sunshine her favorite meal from 2025 for a thread (by that name). She had two choices – one of them was Mayo-Cheddar Boneless Chicken Thighs. So I made that for dinner tonight, along with baked potatoes and peas.
Three kinds of (homemade! delicious!) dumplings: beef+celery, pork+bok choy+shepherd’s purse, and vegetarian - cellophane noodles+egg+crumbled tofu+wood ear.
Wow! They look great!
That is a very impressive assortment of dumplings! They look delicious.
Ooh, thanks for sharing. Def going to try this.
Tonight after a birthday party we had Italian shredded beef ragu from the freezer (to which I added more tomato) over square rigatoni and green salad with Italian Seasons.
Mrs. P has been suffering from a horrible sinus and ear infection all week, so we had to cancel our fine dining reservation, and move on to plan B, which was some excellent Sichuan takeout from Chengdu 23, in Wayne, NJ. I ordered everything extra spicy. We enjoyed spicy pork dumplings in chili oil; ants climbing a tree; three pepper chicken; Western Sichuan lamb; and eggplant in garlic sauce. It went great with an excellent red blend.

Seared chicken breast, chicken gravy, broccoli, and baked potato with garlic compound butter and sour cream.
This plating is for people that don’t like their food touching.
So sorry to hear the missus is down, and that you had to cancel your rez. Your Sichuan takeout order looks delish and hopefully made her feel better already.
