We’ve had a couple days of not cooking here, due to various dental issues for the BF, late medical/dental appts., and more working OT for me. So there was take-out. Mon., a giant suadero/chorizo burrito for him (which he doctored up with crema and avo), and quesabirria tacos for me. Tues., our local divey Chinese place for won ton soup, pot stickers, and Korean fried chicken, which I’m surprised they had and is a relatively new thing there. I’d never tried theirs until last night, and they were SO GOOD i can never order them again. There were 10 pieces for $13.00, and i inhaled 4 of them at dinner (never mind how many since) (in (some) fairness to me, I hadn’t eaten anything else all day because of appts.) Super crunchy, delicious, although not very spicy. (I added chili crisp.)
Hopefully some home cooking will happen sometime this week…
So sorry to hear about the BF’s ongoing dental issues ![]()
I’ve been kinda happy to not having had to cook the last two nights, thanks to leftovers… and more leftovers to come tonight ![]()
that is the AWESOMEST.
That sounds great! i may have to try that soon (aka, ask the BF to make it for me!)
Inspiring!
For tonight’s wintery chill I made my take on Olive Garden’s creamy chicken gnocchi soup with spinach. Hit the spot with a green salad.
Dorie’s banana cappuccino cake for dessert.
Spring Onion will be right over…3000 miles (sung like Chrissy Hinds doing 2000 miles, my all-time favorite holiday-themed song after all-things Vince Guaraldi).
And you seriously gave me a fun idea for dinner. SO has been complaining about his meals lately. ![]()
Another cold one here today spent inside as much as possible. Our buddy helped us take the car in for inspection late afternoon, and we invited him over for a dinner of … ![]()

… LEFTOVERS, i.e. lemony shrimp & bean stew ![]()
Augmented with more shrimp, another can of beans, and baby spinach for which I had to unfortunately leave the house, more lemon juice, crushed garlic and smoked paprika, and more fresh chopped parsley.
“Fancy” app of escargots and crusty bread for starters.
He and his bride picked up a thoughtful goodies bag for us in the big city: lovely chocolate, sea urchin & white tuna patés, and very sweet waffle thingees.
Turkey noodle soup with parsley because I might perish if I don’t have something green, and grilled cheeses, gouda, comté, and manchego, on sourdough.
Gah…Chrissie Hynde. My autocorrect spat that back and I complied. Where my head at?
Sunshine continues to improve and felt she could handle a fairly normal meal, tonight. So, I made Brat & Vegetable Fried Rice. Neighbor #2 spent some time in Wisconsin (during her youth) so anything with bratwurst (or cheese) in it – gets a thumbs up. Everyone ate and was happy.
Squid with pickled mustard greens. Which did not used to be too salty for me, but all of a sudden are.
Soft tofu and avocado with what I am calling ponzu sauce, and you can’t stop me.
Don’t you hate when that happens? God forbid someone would think we’re ignorant.
Beef Chow Fun from “That Noodle Life” - thinly sliced rib-eye steak is marinated for two hours in a mixture of light soy sauce, garlic, Shaoxing wine, toasted sesame oil and cornstarch. Afterwards, you stir-fry the meat mixture, add sliced red onions, add wide rice noodles and finish in the wok by adding a sauce made from light and dark sou sauce, Shaoxing wine, sugar and water. Finished with green onions and plenty of mung beans sprouts and served with toasted sesame seeds and chili crunch and oil
