What's For Dinner #124 - the Season's Rainbow of Colors Edition - December 2025

A coworker who lives/works in Georgia got a gift box from a vendor from Harry and David earlier this week…a combination of fruit and chocolates.

Since he’s not allowed to provide them his home address for privacy reasons, it was put in the home office company kitchen for grazing by those of us who work up here.

I grabbed a couple of H&D pears, and used one for a half pork tenderloin in this recipe. I just seared a seasoned pork tenderloin with s/p for about 4 minutes a side, then into a 350° oven to finish cooking to a light pink/140° degrees.

Convection oven-roasted baby potatoes in olive oil, s/p, and paprika, and steamed green beans were the sides, along with a couple of glasses of wine during prep and with dinner because year-end in HR sucks.

Back from a 2-day road trip to Victoria BC. Dinner at home was a New England style halibut-and-bacon-chowder with saltines.

NYT Sausage Tortellini Soup. Another ok recipe I won’t be keeping. I’d rather make the creamy tortellini soup. The other half of the artichoke, added whole grain mustard and honey to the aioli.

Mayo isn’t traditional at all, but it’s pretty common

BF made us TJ’s squiggly noodz, spicy sesame for me, garlic soy for him, each of us doctored up our own. He also made crispy fried tofu for both of us, dusted with Japanese spices. Perfect on the first of many rainy days in San Francisco…

Went for an end of the year happy hour by myself. I worked hard this year! There was a shortbread cookie with candy cane ice cream sandwich in the freezer for my second dinner.

Pyttipanna - Swedish fried potatoes with “small things” - here the fried potatoes are made with kassler, leeks, mushrooms, red onions and thyme. Topped with fried egg

We had our show at a downtown pub last night. 10 min before I had to leave the house it started snowing like crazy, so I figured we’d be performing for staff only — but the place was busy & a bunch of our friends showed up. One of them took this very cool picture of my sax player and me:

My PIC stayed home, as he is still dealing with the terrible crud that’s had him hacking for over two weeks now, the poor guy! Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon!

He’d not had dinner when I got back & we finished the remainder of our Cubanos we saved from the previous night after heating them up on the panini grill. Def not photo-worthy, but hit the spot.

It’s our 24th wedding anniversary today, and if my boo felt any better we’d take our old selves to our favorite fancy restaurant in town, for which my gal pals gave me a gift card for my birthday in September, but it would be a waste. We’ll postpone that celebration to another time.

Since we’ve been basically eating last Sunday’s pork shoulder roast this entire last week for dinner in numerous iterations (THRIFTY!), we can probably use a break from pigging out :upside_down_face:

WFD tonight TBD.

Happy Anniversary! I’m sorry your PIC is still under the weather. Hopefully you can have a proper celebration soon.

Happy anniversary! I’m sorry to hear your PIC is still sick. Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in and he’ll be back on his feet before you know it!

Get him tested for all sorts of respiratory things!

Happy  Day!

Thursday night: Costco finds…steamed clams and lobster ravioli.

Last night: little lammy pop chops, NE rice mix, asparagus and lemony Hollandaise sauce. I had the energy to put it all together, I even peeled the asparagus ends.

Tonight: maybe jello and cottage cheese and grape tomatoes (separate and not together!) if I feel better. Tummy is topsy turvy today after chemo yesterday.

Your prose is so personal, in the best way. I adore your off the cuff writing. I completely agree the broshoot was too salty, simply because you said so lol. Still looks like an awesome spread! Thanks for sharing!
