I think I’ve actually made this!
Tonight I made Thai green curry flounder with haricots, potatoes, carrots, red bell pepper, and shallot. Served over brown rice-cauli blend.
No heavy lifting tonight: baby bok choy and frozen dumplings in doctored chicken broth. Hit the spot.
I went out to lunch with several members of the Accounting team. While the service was incredibly slow for a half empty restaurant, I had a great Texas Jammin’ Patty Melt: a smash burger with caramelized onions, bacon jam, cheddar cheese on Texas toast, with crispy fries alongside, and a ginger ale. VERY good; no pics.
Wasn’t really hungry when I got home, but I knew I’d need some nibblies to tide me over. Ended up deciding on a charcuterie plate: Manchego cheese, membrillo, & Marcona almonds; proscuitto; Monterey Jack cheese, parsley crackers from Trader Joe’s; Cabot’s Seriously Sharp cheddar, sea salt Melba crackers, homemade garlic-herb cheese, green grapes, and a small Satsuma mandarin.
Won’t eat it all, but it’s letting me graze as I watch local news continue to hash through the potential capture of what is being said is the same suspect in the Brown University (Providence, RI) and M.I T. professor shootings (Brookline, MA) this past week.
Arm day at the gym, which naturally irritated my stoopid shoulder
. Thank goodness the surgery is now less than a month away. My sole ride was taking a kid to the airport, as things are already slowing down.
We stopped by the bakery to check for possible bread options for dinner tonight. One of my gal pals works there and always gifts us at least one loaf of bread ![]()
She’s been through a LOT lately — losing her mom to cancer & her younger brother to a homicide (!) a month later — so she’s not been up for joining our lady gatherings, despite missing our circle. I told her about our planned movie night between xmas & NYE, when I’ll be showing When Harry Met Sally to five of my friends who’ve never seen it (
!), and she said she’d be there. And bring lots and lots of bread ![]()
We took a ciabatta off her hands and ended up using that for the Cubanos, as a couple of other stops didn’t provide any more authentic options either. Given that I already planned to use Havarti instead of the traditional Swiss cheese I do not care for at all, that whole authenticity ship had sailed anyway ![]()
And so, ciabatta with a healthy shmear of spicy mustard, Havarti, Grillo’s pickle chips, Wegmans’ ham off the bone & MOAR porkaliciousness made for….. Cubanesque sangueeches ![]()
We probz coulda shared just one of those mofos, as we each barely finished half. LONCH mañana! ![]()
Romaine, Persian cukes, flavor bombs with buttermilk ranch on the side.
It’s now been a week since we had any “Asian” food. Hope my PIC’s happy ![]()
Love me a patty melt and it is so rare to see them these days!!
It was REALLY good! The onions and bacon jam added a nice sweetness, and the Texas toast was really good.
Ate a large pomegranate so wasn’t that hungry for dinner. Had tartar sauce with a side of fish sticks to scratch that craving for salt.
Pork tenderloin with apple cider, maple syrup, mustards and shallot sauce. Sweet and spicy Moroccan carrots. Artichoke and aioli. Pork was perfection, perfectly pink and melt in your mouth tender.
A potato-based seafood chowder, from home made chicken stock, whitefish bits, shrimp, clams, broccoli florets. I stirred in some brie, for richness.
Tonight’s dinner was a “throw together” meal. We got back late after an extended wait at Sunshine’s doctors appointment. Bratwurst, Mac & Cheese (box) and peas.
That plate looks so inviting and delicious ![]()
Merci madame.
Roasted Fall Vegetables with Harissa Mayonnaise - fennel, cauliflower, sweet potatoes, red onions and chickpeas are oven roasted with an oil-harissa mix. Finished with fresh caramelized walnuts and parsley and served with harissa mayonnaise (mayonnaise, harissa, lemon juice)
Tampa girl says we’ll allow it. You def stayed to the spirit of a proper Cuban…no mayo or veggies.
(Fun fact…Cuban sandwiches were made in the morning for workers at the dozens of cigar factories here in Tampa…designed to not cause food related illness in our warm and humid climate between the start of the day and lunchtime)
Interesting. I read that the variation with mayo is popular at some places in the Tampa/Miami area. I went a little overboard with the mustard on both sides. Maybe one side mustard, one side mayo woulda been perfect ![]()
Tonight the kiddo and I made seared sesame tuna sushi bowls with seasoned brown rice, avocado, sesame carrot-jalapeno salad, mixed greens, cucumber, furikake, and creamy Sriracha dressing. I added kimchi to my bowl.
Shockingly, the kiddo ate everything except for the spicy carrots, and said he loved the seared tuna and glazed tofu I made for him. Tried not to make a big deal about his food acceptance! ![]()

I continue to be amazed at what an adventurous palate your son has. I was still eating hot dogs and boxed mac 'n cheese when I was little.
That’s wonderful!!
