Plumber here from 10 to 4:30 so had groceries delivered. Ordered two large artichokes and received some pretty sad specimens. Season ending I guess.
Italian sausage and cannellini bean soup. The usual suspects plus spinach, tomato and burrata bruschetta.
Spiced Turkey Burger with Mango Chutney from an ATK recipe - patty is made with ground turkey, melted butter, worcestershire sauce, garam masala and cayenne pepper. Assembled with greek yoghurt, lettuce, red onion, mango chutney and cilantro. Served with fries
GMTA - I made some chicken salad with grapes, mayo and S/P this morning for work lunches for the next two days. Ruffles Ridged Tater Chips will be alongside.
I took Sunshine for a colonoscopy, yesterday. Nothing is wrong, its just been 10 years since her last one.
As she was coming out of the anesthesia, the nurse was giving me instructions about “after care” and mentioned soft foods – something like pancakes.
Sunshine opened her eyes up and chimed right in, stating “I WANT PANCAKES!!”
So last night everyone had pancakes for dinner. Sunshine was quite happy!!
I agree. I had to go look at it three times to be sure that was the price for the chops. A real bargain compared to our prices.
take-out veggie borscht , chicken pelmeni, sauerkraut pierogi, Ukrainian garden salad and potato pancakes tonight
Parent Night at my school tonight and while they bought pizza for teachers, it is some weird, cold grandma pie situation (like, purposely. Apparently, it’s a local “thing”.). So, I brought dinner - chickpeas and brown rice, string cheese, and seltzer. Thank goodness tomorrow is probably sushi!
Got my new driver’s license today , and didn’t even have to spend the entire afternoon at the DMV! And I bumped into a GF I hadn’t seen in eons, as she had just returned from several months in Korea.
In not-so-great news I found that my two bags of hatch chiles had started molding — the likely culprit being their vicinity to the bananas on the kitchen sill, as I hadn’t had them all that long. That’s $10 for the garbage
My PIC and I scooted to the brewery for a sunshine Kölsch in lieu of our afternoon coffee, after which I started preparing tonight’s dinner: Sichuan green beans with pork à la SE-ish.
The beans charred nicely under the broiler, but I think next time I’ll try doing them in the air-fryer. The pork / seasoning mix was tasty, and the level of mala acceptable, but we still ended up adding a splash of light soy sauce & more dried chile peppers. We had the beans with some of the rice that came with last night’s Indian food.
Was that one of those special driver’s licenses like a family member in OK obtained or just a regular drivers license.
I made an Italian-ish soup with chickpeas, Dino kale, rosemary, pancetta, soffrito, etc. and ww orzo. Hit the spot.
I didn’t mean to offend. Just honestly curious.
Cabbage was on sale last week for $.68/pound. It wasn’t a great price, but good enough to pick up a head. I had one small piece of chicken that needed to be used, so tonight’s dinner was Chicken Cabbage Vegetable Soup.
Calm day today with only a morning visit from the remediation guy. Turns out the floor tile in the bathrooms needs to be replaced because there is linoleum under it that can cause a mold issue. He got it approved through the insurance while he was there. I enjoyed the whole day with gorgeous weather and access to running water and all bathroom facilities. It’s hard for an old lady to have the water turned off for plumbing issues.
Made cole slaw, tartar sauce, TJ fish nuggets and served with a garden tomato.
A Thai-ish soup and daikon, cucumber salad. Shrimp were sauteed in oo and set aside, added garlic, onion, ginger, carrot, snow peas, mushrooms and Bird’s eye chiles, sauteed a bit then added red curry paste, shrimp/chicken broth, coconut milk and fish sauce. Served with the shrimp, lime and cilantro.
We enjoyed another sensational dinner at That Supper Club pop up restaurant in Park Ridge, NJ, including an outstanding roasted badger flame beet with confit leeks, amazing walnut soil, in an apple vinaigrette; Arctic char crudo with moon drop grape ponzu, pickled shiso and crispy shallots; 40 day dry aged filet mignon; west coast oysters with a fermented ramp mignonette; grilled mahi, prawn tempura and charred figs; sweet corn and chanterelle agnolotti; duck confit cappelletti; apple cider panna cotta for dessert. It all went great with an excellent red blend and cabernet. Attached is a menu for further details. There was a special 9/11 ceremony, and a captured a couple of crappy pictures as the fire dept. was taking down the flag. Unfortunately I had a bad angle.
Hmmm. Nothing special about it, AFAIK
Fresh Turmeric and Peppercorn Curry with Shrimp and Asparagus from Comfort by Ottolenghi - first you prepare the curry base by pureeing reconstituted dried red chilies, toasted white peppercorns and coriander seeds, shallots, garlic, fresh turmeric and cilantro stems. Then the paste gets roasted in coconut cream until nicely browned. Once done, you add coconut milk, light brown sugar and fish sauce and subsequently quickly cook asparagus, asparagus tips and shrimps. Served over rice and topped with a cucumber and ginger relish made by marinating overnight cucumber, ginger, fresno chili, cilantro stems and leaves in a mix of rice vinegar, water and sugar
