I’m with your dad. Hellmann’s (extra heavy) or bust.
First BLT of the season last night, by the BF. On super crunchy/toasted/garlic-rubbed Acme herb slab, romaine (my favorite for BLTs,) couple slices of fat heirloom tomato, and new-to-me Tender Belly uncured bacon from Bi-Rite. I foresee another one of these before the end of the week.
followed later by a giant slab of chocolate cake at Lolinda with a friend for post-bdays cocktails. Cake was courtesy of the chef (who happens to live in our apt. bldg.!)
Baked “crispy battered cod filets”, frozen Farm Boy brand, potato salad, homemade tartar sauce, sliced tomato and cucumber,
What, no mayo.
Pesto haddock cakes with basil, corn, and scallions. Pesto mayo and tater tots to accompany. I used this Hot Thai Kitchen recipe as an outline:
I love tod mun pla. One of my favorite Thai apps. That looks great, thx for the link!
You are very welcome!
Were they good?
Haven’t done a Prince Spaghetti Day in awhile. Rain and 58° weather (and it being a Wednesday!) makes it a perfect day to start it up again.
Sketti.
Sawce.
Cheeese.
The only veg is the tiny bits of basil you see.
A LS shirt, leggings, and slippers are on, windows are closed. It’ll be back to the mid- to upper 80s by Friday.
I like em, they crisp up nicely. It’s an ez pz meal when I’m feeling lazy.
My PT used a massage gun on my shoulders & back after our session this morning, which prompted us to get one for our household. This could quite possibly be the best purchase of the year (so far), even though we also treated ourselves to a new Cuisinart food processor. We’ve had our old one for 20 years & it was time for an upgrade
Aldi had just ONE more bag of the tzatziki chips left that we promptly snatched up; maybe I’ll get lucky at the other branch uptown.
It still sucks coming home from errands and not seeing our sweet monkey boy greet us with ‘silent’ meows through the front window, then running to the door to head-butt us and plop himself on the carpet for belly rubs. I miss him terribly and absolutely hate being in the house too long.
In that sense, getting a surprise call from the guy who makes the fab Detroit-style pizza in town & who considers me a confidante was a welcome distraction (although I wish he didn’t call me as much ). Apparently, the owners of the new place that hired him have held $2,000 worth of tips from the staff, are buying cheap ingredients, and gave more shifts to a new hire. Yikes. I had to get my PIC to shout about an impending guest visit to interrupt his rant & get off the phone
My ladies and I will try to show him some love at a local German-ish place he’s going back to.
Anyway, after this dramatic convo I was ready to hop into the kitchen to prepare dinner in continuation of our rather randomly Italian-themed Wednesday. We still had two little containers of — ironically — the Detroit pizza’s excellent vodka sauce in the fridge as well as an open jar of Carbone’s marinara. I sautéed a tiny shallot in a bit of olive oil, toasted a squeeze o’ tomato paste, a big hunka ‘nduja that needed to go, and a healthy amount of Calabrian peppers before adding the two sauces. Came out great, but we still have sauce leftover
Caesar with raw egg dressing (anchovies, garlic, lotsa fresh ground black pepper, egg, lemon juice, EVOO, parm) and panko in lieu of croutons I don’t care for on the side.
Bellissimo!
Tx for the feedback! I really like the groceries at Farm Boy bit I haven’t had any luck with their prepared foods. None of them taste good IMHO. I like their store brand products like salad dressings, peanuts and chocolate. One of these days I am going to try an FB frozen dinner.
I like their rotisserie chicken better than most other grocery store chicken but I haven’t tried any other prepared foods there. They used to carry frozen, non breaded fish like tuna or mahi mahi, but I haven’t seen them in a while.
Italian stuffed peppers and garlic bread (not shown) for him. Black eyed peas with sausage which I haven’t had in ages for me. No problem. After all these years together we still agree on every day stuff, get along for the most part and it’s no big deal if we want different things for dinner. Can’t get much better than that I guess.
oh, OF COURSE MAYO!
Best Foods, since that’s what we get out here.
I have Kewpie in a few flavors, and I love them, but i wouldn’t use them in a BLT.
A lazy dinner for me tonight.
Needed to make a Costco run for a few things (which inevitably becomes quite a few things…) so grabbed a rotisserie chicken.
Warmed up some brown rice and some Pura Vida frozen veggies* for a healthy but effortless dinner
*Pura Vida makes fire roasted vegetable blends and they are amazing. These are not your mama’s Birds Eye! Well seasoned and still crisp-tender they are a great toss in for starches and stir fries. I buy them at Costco but Ive seen them at Publix too.
Salade niçoise. Gold Nuggets, haricots verts and Yukon Gold little spuds from the garden. There will be figs for dessert.
Spicy pork chili made with canned tomatoes and black beans that had no sodium added. Glad I found them when I went grocery shopping because they make life so much easier.
Same here! Rotisserie chicken on a multigrain Dave’s Killer bun, barbecue sauce, avocado, and a big green salad with figs, goat cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers, chopped walnuts, and walnut-raspberry vinaigrette.
I’ll bet rotisserie chicken sales have skyrocketed since eating out has become so expensive. Someone should do a study.
