Second visit to Esnaf in San Carlos - still a very enjoyable Turkish restaurant with excellent dishes

Pide - freshly made in their oven and regularly replenished (quite dangerous to fill yourself by nibbling on it)

Crispy Manti - Oven-baked beef dumplings, garlic yoghurt, tomato sauce, mint

Sucuklu Pide - Turkish beef sausage, kasar, egg yolk, sumac, chives

Kebap Trio for Two - Beef tenderloin, chicken thigh, kofte, buttered rice, coban salad, lahmacun

Katmer - Pistachio cream-filled filo pastry, served with chocolate gelato

I was raised on Hellmanns. The reverence my dad had (and still has) for that little blue ribbon is deep.

He was appalled when one of my exes preferred Miracle Whip and (jokingly) referred to our relationship as a mixed marriage. (I won’t touch MW by the way…and my ex wouldn’t even use the knife from the mayo to spread his MW! Lol)

Then I tried Duke’s and never looked back.

(And Kewpie has a whole different flavor profile…it’s great with frites)

Mmmm…I would be very, very happy to eat there!

Never seen a presentation quite like this. Did you like it? Almost like a potsticker prep for manti.

The pide reminds me so much of Georgian khachapuri. Did it contain cheese?

That’s hilarious.

Duke’s is the house brand, kewpie for special applications cuz it’s so rich. It’s great with fries.

Gosh… did they run out of suçuk halfway topping your pide?

With Hellman’s costing close to $10 a jar in Ontario, I have started trying other brands and house brands.

I like Our Compliments, the Canadian Sobeys grocery store house brand. I’m also okay with Kraft. I am currently using Cibona, a Canadian made mayo from Quebec, which comes in a squeeze bottle that I like. I’ll take a photo. It came from a local grocery store.

I don’t like the Farm Boy Brand Mayo.

I’ve bought Kewpie but didn’t open it before the Best Before date had passed.

I just bought a jar of Hellman’s for $5.99 at Metro.

That’s a good price.

Maybe Hellman’s mayo costs more at the Metros and Sobeys in LdnOnt. Prices vary lately.

For a min there, I thought you were buying your mayo at Holts

Yes - they were quite nice and even though they were a bit crispy they also still had a bit “al dente” feel

I had indeed cheese and egg and so it wasn’t too far away from khachapuri

Can there be too much sucuk ?

In my case — absolutely. But I also don’t care much for meat on regular pizza, so I’m an outlier for sure.

Small tuna fish sandwich(half a can of Italian tuna in OO) on toasted baguette, store bought potato salad and some pickle spears.

I was raised on MW and Hellmanns although I’m in CA so it’s called Best Foods. In fact I had to look up how to spell hellmanns and was surprised it has two nn. Then I heard about Dukes so bought some from Amazon. Nope. Didn’t care for it. If I remember correctly, it reminded me of MW. :woman_shrugging:

Early dinner. Too hot. Avocado and tomato sandwich on white bread with Best Foods Mayo. Reading recipes and drinking an icy Ultra Zero.
