We enjoyed another sensational dinner at James on Main, In Hackettstown, NJ, including a Niman Ranch pork rack chop with summer sweet corn & chorizo succotash; an organic green bean salad with a medley of local pole beans, roasted beets, heirloom tomatoes, vidalia onions, balsamic vinaigrette; an excellent yellow coconut curry and coral tooth mushroom with toasted pumpkin seeds, roasted Japanese eggplant, sticky black rice; black tiger prawns with green papaya, mango, micro cilantro, peanut scallion vinaigrette; pan roasted halibut with basil potato puree, sweet corn beurre blanc, broccolini pesto; duck confit spring roll with pickled hon shimeji mushroom & seaweed salad, smoked lions’s mane mushroom teriyaki hot sauce; excellent hand cut fries, and an incredible dessert of a warm chocolate brownie with caramel, candied peanuts, plums, & toasted meringue. It all went great with an excellent cabernet and Shiraz.
Ricotta Gnudi with Red Pepper-Salsiccia Ragu - one of those dishes were the flavors are spot on but the execution/texture wasn’t perfect. The gnudi barely kept their shape when briefly cooked in water and started to slowly disintegrate - not really sure what went wrong. The gnudi were made with drained ricotta, parmesan, semolina, egg yolks and nutmeg. For the ragu you puree grilled red peppers, tomatoes, walnuts, garlic, smoked paprika, red wine vinegar and olive oil and cook it with crumbled salsiccia. Finished with parmesan, walnuts and some basil
Nothing really, a bit of heartburn last night but nothing out of the ordinary. I’m still on the lowest dosage for the next 2 weeks, not sure if it’ll make a difference when I increase it.
Her criticism was that she thought the food was overall on the sweet side, which she and her partner disliked. I’ll have to let her know that it’s under new ownership, which presumably means the food is different as well
so true. though it’s supposed to be nice this week, finally! (well, mid-to-high 60s. )

Somewhat lighter than last nights meal

I made SK’s ziti chickpeas [and cannelini beans] with[out] kale. tonight. Side of garden kale salad with red cherries, green grapes, unripe pear, dried cherries, toasted pecans, and maple-balsamic dressing. I didn’t follow the casserole recipe closely but it holds up well to adaptation. I was in true lunch lady mode!
Starting the new week off proper-like with cheeborgerz. Aldi had a 4-patty chuck & short rib mix that sounded appealing. Sharp American, Big Marty’s rolls w/sesame seeds (natch) for buns, Duke’s, squeeze o’ ketchup for me, dab of mustard for him, shredded iceberg, thick sliced red onion, and a couple each of Grillo’s dillicious pickle spears on the side.
Boygahs were perfectly rare & very flavorful. Be interesting to do a blind test between those and the Wegmans patties.
Nuked COTC slathered with TPSTOB & showered with salt for our health!
Oh, and a handful of LW hand cut fries w/ kewpie and Heinz.

Lamb chops with Lebanese 7 spice and tzatziki, carrots with cumin and coriander, braised carrots, roasted eggplant. Also la ratte fingerlings.
Turkish-ish chicken kebabs on the grill, with all the usual suspects: pita, raita, chopped salad.
During the summer burn ban, I’m trying to love cooking on the gas grill (as apposed to over open flame), but I’m not there yet. Tonight I brined the meat (chicken breast), as well as marinated. Still, pale and flagellant - I’m thinking next time I’ll just try under the broiler.
Open Nature salmon burger over iceberg, radish, celery, red apple, red grapes, peas, green onion, and avocado dressed with honey mustard dressing and McCormick’s Salad Supreme spice blend. Ultra Zero with lots of ice and lime wedge was my drink of choice.
Stir fry. Pork tenderloin marinated in gochujang spicy miso sauce, seared, roasted and cubed. Carrots, red bells, onions, garlic, shiitakes, broccoli, a splash of rice wine, hoisin, marinade. Daikon and cukes, black vinegar, green onion, Fresno chile.
