What's for Dinner #121 - the End of Vacation/Start of School Shopping Month Edition - August 2025

I found some generic Frito’s at Dollar Tree today on clearance for 50 cents, which meant one thing – Frito Pie!!

Neighbor #2 had never heard of “Frito Pie” when I delivered dinner to her tonight. Hopefully, she enjoyed it.

Real Frito’s chips are better than the generic ones, but it still made for a tasty dinner.

Oh… and green beans were served on the side (as the vegetable) but were not pictured.

The ass clowns I mean students have started their invasion of our little town, since lots of off-campus rentals have an Aug 1 move-in date, so moving trucks are everywhere & the town is perceptibly busier.

I drove out to the neighboring village to catch my GF perform an early evening set with her funk band at an outdoor arts & crafts fair, with pleasant temps and comfortable seating, even though it made me late for a poker game at our buddy’s place.

Our very late dinner (9:30pm) was homemade pizza & store-made fried chicken. Both were good. No pics. Too busy playing.

The night ended at around 1:30 AM with my bluffing & winning a pot of $140 in a seemingly endless game of Blood & Guts. I’d already lost $70 in a prior round, so at least I made that back and then some. It was a crazy move: the nature of the game allows for multiple challengers who, if they beat you, must be paid out, and the pot paid for each challenger as well, which could’ve been ruinous with only one challenge, i.e. $140 in the pot, $140 to my challenger, but even worse with multiple challengers… but nobody had the ovaries of steel I did, and I’m not mad about it

That is why my wife and I have always left only the car key with the dealership. Yes, it’s a pain taking the key off the ring, but it’s minor.

Yes, at the beginning of the summer. I am still getting used to it, it has something called a char burner that seems to be hotter than the other two so that side of the grill is hotter which I don’t really see as an advantage.

I have 2 fobs, one for the dealer(also a backup) and one I use regularly.

I have a lot of Apple Air Tags. Most of them are attached to keys. I should attach one to me, I think. Yes, it’s hard getting a fob off of my key ring. So I put the fob on a ring that’s in turn attached to my key-ring-for-the-other-keys. Slightly easier to disassemble. My condo building requires us to leave a key with the downstairs office, because we have some double-up parking.

Air tags on a car/truck key fob is a great idea :bulb:. I should use the one I keep in my luggage when I’m not travelling.

Salmon slow-roasted in lemon butter, with dill. New potato salad with very skinny scallions, diced radishes, champagne vinegar and Duke’s.

Well I’ve learned my lesson. Ordered some AirTags for all of our keys. Thankfully they found my keys! They were in someone else’s vehicle. I’m guessing they fell out of the tech’s pocket. I did get a $250 gas station gift card and a $250 gift card for a steakhouse close to our house. My parents worked with this dealership for years before they moved, including my first car, and this was the first incident. I’ll give them another shot but hopefully no car issues for the foreseeable future. I’ll go pick them up next week. I headed out to Kelowna solo for the long weekend. Well, I brought my fave four legged co-pilot. My honeybee is woking a shutdown, and he got the night shifts. Girls’ night tonight over at my bestie’s house with a few girls. Her husband is going to smoke us some wings. I just finished making a board to bring over. Everyone is still out on the water, so I’ll down the road to the marina to pick everyone up and head there soon.
Smoked cheese, mini Brie, olives, chorizo wrapped blue cheese dates, tortellini skewers, melon and prosciutto, nuts. The usual.

And my babe was super stoked to be back in the Okanagan.

Grillin’ and chillin! Sorry, couldn’t help myself. :grimacing: If I’m gonna crank up the grill, Imma make it worth my while.
Picked up a 16oz, 28 day aged NY strip(which I left uncovered in the fridge overnight), some COTC, purple onion and some Cubanelle peppers and charred them up nicely. The leftover veg was turned into a marinated salad and the rest of the beef will be for breakfast.

Wow. You made out like a bandit in The Case of the Missing Keys. Talk about going above and beyond from their customer service department. :slightly_smiling_face:

I will preface my dinner post by saying “This doesn’t go together.”

Yes, I know.
But local corn is available.
And I wanted both recipes.
And I’m only feeding myself.
And I don’t have to worry if someone else doesn’t like the combo.
So there.

Honey-Garlic Black Tiger Shrimp on Basmati rice with Mexican Street Corn Salad alongside.

V&L as the libation.

See? Told you it didn’t go together.
Don’t care.
