Kid is on holiday with friends, so my husband and I had a date night where all we did was worried aloud about kid on his first holiday without any adult supervision.

I forgot to take photos of our starters: salt and pepper calamari with aioli for hubby, nduja and chorizo bonbons with a romesco sauce for me. I thought mine was too salty. The calamari was fried very nicely.

For my main I had chicken with leeks, tenderstem broccoli and mushrooms in a creamy sauce, with parmentier potatoes:

He had steak:

No room for dessert. Pretty good for a neighbourhood restaurant just round the corner from us. Bill came to just over ÂŁ50 including 2 passionfruit martinis and service charge.

So, my antiquing trip today to Quechee and Chester, Vermont ended up being nothing but a 292 mile round trip car wash for Gilda, as it rained from driving past Concord and for the rest of the day. But she appreciated stretching her legs and getting a day-long tubbie. :cloud_with_rain::bathtub:

Did I find anything? Well, no antiques. But the Cabot Store provided some ginger-infused maple syrup, maple mustard, and blackberry and raspberry jams. C’mon
you’re not surprised, are you? And I enjoyed the trip and the day, even with the constant rain.

Dinner was easy: Corabella ricotta and spinach tortellini (picked up packages of the dried mini-tortellini at OSJL), cooked and mixed with a squozen and sautéed sweet Italian sausage with broccoli florets, and a sauce of President garlic-herb cheese, half-and-half, Italian herbs and garlic powder. Some grated Parm-Reg on top.

The rest of the Torre Orla rosé as my libation.

It was a good day.

My guy called me around lunchtime because someone was eating Hamburger Helper. He thinks it’s been 10 years or so since he’s had it last. I took the hint and went and got him box. There is a happy man at our house now. I had a PBJ with some grapes. Jam was made by grandma. It was delish.

I picked up a nice steelhead trout filet at Aldi yesterday hoping I could toss it on the grill tonight, along with planks from the middle-aged zuke on our window sill, but the weather didn’t cooperate yet again :slightly_frowning_face:

Instead we threw the fish in the air-fryer, just brushed with seasoned avocado oil (Penzey’s Mural of Flavor & lemon pepper). It was perfectly cooked within 10 min — although I probably should’ve take the pic before checking

I made ladolemono to go with the fish & it was a great combo. The zuke planks went under the broiler and were served with the usual treatment, i.e. scattered feta, sumac, parsley & mint on top.

Much better meal than last night’s.

Much cooler dining quarters, too  (the gay bar’s a/c is a bit of a joke).

Late lunch out today. 3 p.m. So we weren’t too hungry. But still needed a little sustenance tonight. Toasted buttered English muffins with peanut butter and grape jelly.

TJ’s squiggly noodz, this time with Spruce Eats’ addictively garlicky cabbage (yamitsuki), courtesy of El BF. As was the marinated jammy egg. Mentaiko kewpie to gild the lily. Leftovers for breakfast.

Best description of mature kale salad that I’ve ever heard was that it has all the appeal of a shredded polypropylene roof tarp.

I do like baby kale on a salad, but as an ingredient, not thr main character.

Tonight’s dinner was homemade ground beef & cheese hot pockets on homemade bread. The “ground beef” is meatballs ground up in a mini chopper, so it isn’t true hamburger or ground beef, but it was good.

I made these a couple times last week for Neighbor #2 (for a quick hot lunch) and she asked for them for dinner. So, I paired them with some cauliflower and that made for an easy dinner.

Last day of my work trip. The office lunches have been quite short of veg, so for a solo dinner tonight I had a very nice piece of sirloin with a double helping of broccolini (hold the”crispy mashed potatoes,” pls.)

Broccolini is probably my favorite vegetable.
