The June thread is here:
Oooh, this is good to know. When we used to vacation in North Carolina years ago, I became a fan of the locally sourced shrimp. I donāt think I have ever found it here in MA.
They were pretty good. Iād love to hear your opinion. These were fresh wild caught, which is what I was looking for. (Didnāt want to have to defrost the shrimp in my freezer.) The texture was slightly softer than I had expected (i didnāt cook the shrimp as long as the blogger said toā¦they would have been horribly tough if I had!), but I dont think that had anything to do with it.
They were $17.99/lb, so my 6 shrimp cost $5.40.
last night at my sisterās, took a packet of a tomato mascarpone cream sauce we brought from Japan, made the TJās squiggly noodles and I sauteed shrimp. Mixed together, tossed in some scallions - dinner. Simple, easy, very tasty, although we prefer the mentaiko packets we brought back and will do that next time.
Youāre torturing me. Looks so good.

Cajun BBQ shrimp
Dear god that looks delicious
Catching up. Two recent May dinners:
Crabcakes over a big salad with jalapeƱo ranch dressing and lemony fennel slaw, apple spritzer
And pulled chicken tacos

Crabcakes over a big salad
Crab cakes + salad = one of my favorite meals. Your version looks fabulous.

Itās the same philosophy on Noom, which I really enjoy. There are no bad foods and you can eat anything that you want to eat as long as itās moderation and you have a lot of balance in your diet. Which means for me that I have had probably half a dozen short trips in the eight months that I have been dieting where for 3 to 5 days I do somewhat pay attention to what I order when Iām out of town and out of my house and not cooking for myself, but I also remember to enjoy the opportunity to try new things and eat at new places. This pretty reliably results in a 3 to 5 pound weight gain that I then have to lose a second time and it will take me anywhere from one to four weeks to do that. Nevertheless, Iāve just made a decision that this is what Iām gonna do at this point in my life before a bunch of health issues hit me, and itās a marathon not a sprint. So although I havenāt been posting a lot of meals here recently, I am pleased and proud to report that since mid September Iāve lost 39 pounds. It makes a huge difference in how I look and feel and also in my self worth. Iām also a walker. I like to be outside even when the weather is not so great. Chalk that up to living in the Pacific Northwest where the weather is not super great eight months out of the year. I put in my headphones and I enjoy some audiobooks while Iām doing it, except for on the weekends when my husband and I do date night by taking hikes in the mountains. Power and strength to everyone whose love of eating results in a need to do the really hard work to get and stay in good physical condition as a result.
Agree with veg loading. I realized I love green papaya salad and have probably eaten my weight in it over the past 8 months where Iāve made it 6? times. I shred an entire 4-5 lb papaya each time which is a huge pita. But then there is breakfast and lunch for days. I hit kimchi hard as a snack too.
Another trick is add chilis to your food. Anything to slow down how fast you eat it. Other than @linguafood us mortals donāt eat spicy food as fast because we need to take time to cough, cry, and blow our nose. It lets your stomach catch up to your mouth and equalize consumption to satiety a bit better.
I lost 20 lbs last year and the only real change I made to my diet was not drinking anymore. I was definitely drinking three drinks a week on Saturday night (martini to start, a big glass of wine with dinner then a liqueur with dessert). When Iād eat out I would always have a libation with dinner and alcoholic beverages are high in points. I was tracking them on my WW app and itās incredible how many calories are in them. I seem to have plateaued so itās time to try scaling down my portion sizes and I will have to do something about those sweets I eat. I often have dessert a couple of times a week and the tuck shop in my office building has really good homemade cookies and I was buying one each of the three days Iām in the office. Last month I decided I was going to treat myself to a cookie on Thursdays since itās my last in-the-office day of the week and have fruit for dessert the other two days. I will also have to learn how to order/what to order when I eat out since restaurants tend to serve huge portions and I always feel the need to eat the entire portion. I keep reminding myself there is nothing wrong with taking home a doggie bag or even ordering an appetizer sized meal if I know the mains are going to be ginormous.
I often wonder how Iāll transition from loss to maintenance because itās so much easier to lose (not that itās easy) when you cook for yourself. And I gain literally every time Iām eating out for more than one meal in a row. Even when Iām trying to order smart or eat less. Fortunately or unfortunately I was never much of a drinker so I didnāt put on that weight but also havenāt been able to cut that out to lose any. My Achilles is every starchy thing. Thatās been the biggest diff in my eating patterns. Much much less of bread, pasta, pastry, pizza. On occasion though. Life isnāt worth living otherwise.
A great diet is to make the food so GD spicy you can only eat a very small amount of it
And congratulations!
Thank you. I definitely had some doubts at the start hearing mixed reviews on noom including from you and your friends. But itās working. I am the turtle making my way ever so slowly to the finish line. I have nearly as far to go as Iāve already come to get to my goal but I am actually starting to believe I might get there.
My daughter says she has a āstarch toothā
I resemble that remark.
