So, you ended up sticking to the yoga class, eh? Are you enjoying it?

Last Saturday, Mrs. P & I attended the NJ Food and Wine Festival. One of the Food vendors (Fiorentini), asked people for one-word remarks of the delicious truffled mushroom tartlette, they served. Mrs. P & I are in the Instagram video below (with three seconds left in the video). I’m the one that says wow :slightly_smiling_face: I didn’t realize they were actually filming us.
I’m not sure if you can view the link below (if you don’t have Instagram).

Yes I decided to persevere and I must admit I’m enjoying it. I have resigned myself to the fact I have to do chair yoga since I am not flexible enough to sit on the mat cross legged, etc. But I can do the stretches seated from the chair and I must admit I feel better from stretching. Sitting at a desk all day will do it to you… I recently found a yoga meetup group that has weekly sessions that take place indoors however they meetup outdoors when the weather is nice. I am thinking of joining them but I won’t have access to a chair so I may not be able to keep up. They meetup on Monday nights which is the same night of the week that my sketching classes are held however I may join in on one of those outdoor yoga classes when my sketching class ends on June 9th. I am committed to getting some exercise since a lot of people in my age group (60s) seem to become complacent when it comes to exercise but I think there are many health benefits to exercising during your senior years. So I will try a few activities and see what fits best. At this time of year I would like to do something outside so I can get fresh air and sunshine.

Yes, I much prefer outdoor activities to indoor when it comes to exercise, too — well, weather permitting, of course.

It’s great that you found an exercise that helps you feel better overall

If sitting cross-legged is not something you are comfortable with, you should be able to do the yoga stretches in a kneeling position in most cases. In my studio they provide cork bricks (I use one to sit on cross legged because my hips and hamstrings are very tight) and large bolsters to support positions. Lots of people sit on them cross legged or kneeling and it really helps. I ended up buying my own cork brick because it helps so much with sitting on the floor. You can get firm foam ones too. They can also help with other exercises for leg and arm strengthening.

Just trying to think if there are other alternatives to a chair.

I’m not sure if I can do kneeling either :frowning: The studio has foam bricks and bolsters though so I will consider using one. There was a new student in class last night who is much older than I and she was complaining at one point her knees were hurting from the kneeling so the instructor came over and put the booster under her knees but she didn’t say if it helped. The instructor changes things up a little bit each week so if there is any kneeling I might give it a try. The only exercise on the mat that I really like is at the beginning she has us lie down on our back with our arms and legs outstretched and I actually find that really relaxing. I had a hard time getting up though :frowning: I hate getting old…

I hear you. These matters are very common in classes. My studio has a box of old yoga mats that have been cut up into smaller squares and many students grab several to use as pads under their knees during class. I use a folded towel to cushion my knees in some poses. One teacher even teaches ā€˜how to get up’ from lying on the floor in a way that is accessible to those with difficulties. I had started with bad shoulder problems and a very weak core so I couldn’t just sit up from lying down. I learned how to gently roll onto my side into a fetal position and then use the top arm to gradually push my trunk up and then get my bottom arm to help with the rest. It has taken me 7 years to get to a place where I’m more confident and strong in my practice but am still way behind some. The good thing is you are recognising and working within your limits - that will protect you from injury. Just learning to breathe and relax is a great way to enjoy a session.

We were surprised by a Berlin- and date-specific holiday to commemorate the 80th anniversary of being liberated from National Socialism (which we had had no idea about), so any plans involving stores, markets, or other capitalist exploits had to be nixed :woman_shrugging:t2:

After a chilly ride through town, we didn’t feel like leaving the pad again for dinner, so we got delivery from our favorite hand-pulled noodles place that’s opened a 4th location since last year, relatively close to our new address: one order of cumin lamb biang biang noodz,

a fried chicken bao Sammie (mostly for my dude as I don’t care for baos),

and cukes.

There’s not much else to choose from on their menu anyway

We picked ā€œAsian spicyā€ for our heat level & were sufficiently sweaty, with tastebuds abuzz. Didn’t finish the noodz or the cukes. Glad I convinced my pig of a PIC to stick to just one order of noodles
