You always eat at such lovely restaurants. I love how they served your egg in an egg cup.
I went to my first yoga class last night and my body is reminding me I am not 20 anymore. I wasn’t able to do some of the exercises so I’m on the fence as to whether or not I’ll go back. Dinner after was Boston lettuce and sliced tomato to start then angel hair pasta with sundried tomatoes, cilantro and feta.
“The Buffalo wing” may just be my favorite course on that menu
How was it?
Most yoga positions can be ‘adjusted’ to make them beginner-friendly, and hopefully your instructor pays attention to your form so you don’t hurt yourself
I have been practicing yoga for most of my life. My recent mess of surgeries (and their attendant complications) made modification necessary; I doubt I’ll ever get into bird of paradise again, for starters. But yoga offers something for every body. Here is a free beginner series from my favorite online instructor. You can give it a try in the privacy of your home (which is I where I exercise).
I am just feeling discouraged right now since I wasn’t expecting yoga to be so hard. The instructor was actually very perceptive and noticed I was having a hard time with some of the poses so she gave me some easier exercises to do. I am actually feeling much better this morning from the stretches I did last night and @small_h provided a link above to some easier exercises so I may try them next.
Thanks I will have to try this. The yoga class I went to last night was at a community center and they only have the one yoga class right now since this is something new they are doing. I will try the video you linked to.
We had our second personal trainer sesh yesterday, with a lot of focus on strength training and mobility — at least for me, lord knows how my PIC was tortured . Will I be able to walk tomorrow, or lift my arms above my head? Taking bets now
Came home to an email from a Korean-American staff member at the local Giant who’d complimented me on my funky tights a few weeks ago at the self-checkout, and inquired where I might’ve purchased them. When I replied that I got them in Berlin (I usually buy at least 8-10 pairs and bring some home for my gals, too), she reacted unexpectedly excited, as she was about to embark on an internship in Berlin this summer! I gave her my card in case she needed any advice or recommendations for her 3 months stay, and I’d all but forgotten about it until she contacted me. Who knows, we might meet up for drinks or coffee while we’re there…. although we may be a bit too old to be interesting enough for her
Always happy to help out and share my Berlin knowledge, and of course I sent her the info for the tights store
Dinner was with my gal pals a restaurant/bar a bit out of town, which we do occasionally to accommodate a couple of ladies who don’t live close by.
We pretty much all ordered from HH specials — hard to beat $5 apps and $7 sammiches: two orders of their fantastic fried pickles (super-crispy, super-thin breading) with chipotle ranch that actually has a kick to it,
(pic taken mid-grab, obviously )
one chick got an order of pulled pork sliders,
two got the nachos,
and the rest of us the 4oz smash burger with Cooper cheese and the usual fixins. I upgraded and added bacon for $2. Burger was good and came with plenty of fries I couldn’t finish & offered to the table.
I also got a slice of their insanely delish banoffee pie to take home and share with my sweets
Fun evening with the gals and some serious tea ! Was happy to be home by 10pm, as I’m still socialized out it seems & will need a few more nights to decompress. No weekend plans to speak of yet, and I’m loving it
I remember the first couple of vinyasa yoga classes I went to after having never really exercised really kicked my butt. I felt so uncoordinated and drenched in sweat. By about the third session though it got much much easier! Consider hanging in there!
Agree with @small_h. My 82 yo mother does yoga, so it’s not age, it’s just being gentle with the on-ramp until your body gets some of its flex back.
If it’s a community yoga class, it’s probably geared at a mid-level experience crowd. You might want to seek out a beginner class.
There are many simplifications and adjustments that make it easier for beginners – eg the class will have pillows, blocks, and belts to make even simple poses easier. And chair yoga is a thing now too. Even a beginner pilates class can help stretch you out a bit.
It is the one dish from his tasting menu which stays on. It’s technical not an easy dish (there are some Instagram videos how he is doing it, e.g. carefully deboning, filling with a flavorful chicken farce, making the home-made buffalo sauce etc) but after having ~40 different dishes from the chef it is for us the one we are least excited about - it tastes good but we have never understood the excitement of buffalo sauce in the US
Dalida https://www.dalidasf.com/ is one of the raising star restaurants in San Francisco over the last few years with its focus on (Eastern) Mediterranean food executed on a very high level. We had some “hints” of their food at a company event and it prompted us to have a visit. They are also one of the restaurants which offers “Chef’s pick” menu and it was obvious to choose that route. It was an excellent overview of many of their dishes and led to a great night. Their kitchen counter is a great place to experience the food but also the action in the kitchen but it was surprising how uncomfortable their counter chairs are (and with several people standing for some time during the night it was obvious we weren’t the only one feeling that way)
Snacks - scallop crudo, goat cheese filled squash, eggplant filled with walnuts, midye dolma (stuffed mussels)
Fattoush salad - heirloom beets, blackberries, pita croutons, walnuts, pomegranate molasses
Breaking bread - hummus, muhammara, smoked yoghurt, pickles, marinated olives, chubby pita
Carob pasta with braised pork cheeks
Lamb shoulder, saffron tahdig, asparagus
Kaymak ice cream
Cake with strawberry-rhubarb ice cream
Mignardises
Beef noodle soup and marinated egg from Shaghai Wonton Noodle. This is probably one of my favourite restaurants in Ottawa.
E-a-s-y does it!
Smash burger with “crispy” cheddar, onions, pickles, a side of crinkle cut fries with “go” dipping sauce.
Burger was good, but maybe I should have made it a double(but I’m glad I didn’t

P.S There were plenty moar fries left in the bag.
Leftover lamb pilaf - I garnished with more mint tonight and a handful of toasted pistachios for texture. More yogurt. Steamed green beans. On the fence about a night cap of some sort. BF is out with friends from the old job. I may just turn in early.
Made my first fish taco (of sorts) with stuff I needed to use up.
Couple of Gorton’s beer-battered fish filets cooked in the toaster oven, the rest of some tomato jam, chopped red cabbage, sliced green onion, grated Pepper Jack cheese, and a drizzle of sour cream mixed with a pinch of garlic powder and a bit of lime juice to thin it out.
Had several larger tortillas to use (vs the smaller taco ones) so I used one of them.
Pretty good!
We are eating down the fridge before our spring break travels. I made a broccoli, cheese, and ham crustless quiche. Salad (not pictured) on the side. Gin. Live music soon.
I have never thought to add a sauce selection to my quiche plate, but I will now!
I have many to get through.
