Now that is an inspirational dish. Gigantes are one of my favorite beans. Thanks for sharing.
Do you add a splash of vinegar to your lentil soup? My mom always did
Not tonight, Mom preferred lemon but Pops liked vinegar. I like either or a splash of hot sauce.
Why not both? I mean hot sauce and a source of acid?
I made a twist on this recipe for Thai peanut chicken bowls using leftover grilled chicken tenderloins and adding lots of chopped lettuce and some leftover mango slaw + pineapple salsa. I also pickled carrots and radishes with the cucumbers called for in the recipe. We did not care for TJ’s jarred satay sauce but the noodle salad concept will be a repeat.
Roasted arctic char on a bed of braised broccoli rabe, potato, mushrooms, and white beans that is flavored with garlic, red pepper flakes, and lemon. Good opportunity to use up some items that’s been lingering in the fridge!
The miserable winter weather continues so I am still pretending it’s spring. Well technically it is spring so tonight I am cooking accordingly. Dinner tonight was a salmon fillet, a Greek salad and iced tea.
Frank’s HS is pretty acidic.
" ADRAK Indian Cuisine, Richmond Hill "
Too lazy to cook! Decided to get some Indian take-out food instead
.
With 4 pretty decent Indian curry houses, all within a few minutes drive from home…Bombay Chutney, Bombay Bhel, Oh Bombay and Adrak to choose from. This time, I decided to give the ’ non-Bombay ’ one a try.
Ordered the following:
- Okra & Lotus Root Salad (Savory & crunchy but a touch too salty)
- Goan Fish Curry (Semi-spicy with a pleasant Coconut component)
- Lamb Rogan Josh (Delightfully seasoned with tender meat. One of
the better renditions in the GTA)
Overall, the food was agreeable and tasty. However, with a price tag of about 30+% more than its nearby competitors. In the future, I would opt for ‘Oh Bombay’ or ‘Bombay Bhel’ offerings instead. Maybe even drive down to my old, trusted favorite ‘Chuhan’s’ in Markham?!
Another success story from eHarmony!
Happy anniversary to you & Mrs P and thank you for sharing you wonderful celebration meals!
(But now I want stuffed mussels )
Mighta been me. I have been known to go on (imagine that
) about “faux lobster” rolls – and also what to do with the rest of the damn hot dog roll pack
.
Grill baby, grill! Burgers on the gas grill, topped with American and sharp cheddar, brioche buns, iceberg leaf lettuce, sliced romas and Mort’s sauce. Extra crispy Tater Tots on the side. Assorted crudites for extra veg.
No picture…too busy cooking and eating
I drizzled some on my satay bowl last week, and it was too sweet for me as a condiment.
When I used it as a marinade for chicken and then sauteed well to brown, that somehow was not an issue (maybe the excess sugar caramelized). This last time I added some curry paste and ginger garlic to the marinade too.
Yes. Frozen and raw. I only say that because they are red and have an already cooked coloring/appearance.
A VERY late dinner, because I started it late, forgetting I had to blind bake the Pillsbury crust.
Broccoli, pancetta, and caramelized onion quiche. I used a knob of both cheddar and Monterey Jack I needed to use up, and added a bit of goat cheese, and added some dried thyme, black pepper, Aleppo pepper to oomph it up.
There was wine.
And I have breakfast for part of next week.
Finnegan, on the other hand, did some snuggly-bugglies with Mom in the afternoon under her blankie (which means it’s Finnegan’s blankie, not Momma’s blankie).
Meanwhile, Murphy glared over my shoulder because he didn’t get there first (Although he had two top-of-blanket tummy cuddles earlier in the day.)
True dat. Not very hot, tho.
I’ve found them to be unpleasantly soft/mushy, but maybe I just got a bad batch
We did a little food shopping before leaving Philly early afternoon: a chonk each of quadrella di bufala and Goat Rodeo Bamboozled, a few slices of porchetta & a baguette from DiBruno’s, two more bottles of that fantastic buttermilk ranch dressing at Sprouts, and another bottle of the equally fantastic Vietnamese kumquat hot sauce at Ba Le Bakery, where we also grabbed two banh mi (extra paté, extra pickled veg, extra delish!) for the road. One would’ve been plenty, so we have another left for tomorrow’s lunch or dinner. Our favorite bakery’s stand at the FM was already sold out of everything, so no homadama for us to take home this time (we may still have one in the freezer).
Monkey boy was mighty happy to see us, as evidenced by several minutes of violent head-butting , and — as much fun as we had eating most of the foods & catching up with our friends — it’s kinda nice to be home.
Ran a coupla loads of laundry & had a very simple Abendbrot with the goodies we’d brought back, plus a salad bc I was craving a proper one
