It was! Took me down memory lane with the coffee gravy. So good, we repeated it the next night and there is plenty of lamb for curry next week.
Voting is up for COTQ and DOTQ:
I say that to myself every day anymore. My granddaughters tell me I could open a grocery store. I have been good for the past month and have not bought groceries, except for bread and milk and eggs. But know I have to get better. It is so hard.
That’s good to hear. You can’t have too much lamb
Nice, crispy looking skin on those wings! Did you make them, and if so what’s your method?
These were frozen, breaded “Jane’s “ wings, they’re crispy until you toss them in any kind of sauce, but still pretty tasty. I bought them on sale, so no complaints from me.
My plan to make old school tacos was foiled by rancid taco shells. They were only 6 months past the best-by, who’d a thunk it? Taco salad was a tasty consolation prize.
Met with our prospective house & cat sitter for the summer this afternoon, who seems like a reasonable person & loves cats. She’s a little younger than I’d prefer, and we’re still waiting for a reference from her employer — but if it all checks out we’d have cleared our final annual hurdle. Always nice when things works out
Was in a funky mood today & didn’t feel like making the chorizo tacos we’d planned for tonight’s dinner, so we ordered a few items from our favorite sushi place. I almost nuked some of last night’s fried rice, but glad I didn’t bc the takeout was plenty.
We shared their excellent miso soup, the yellowtail jalapeño appetizer with tomato caper sauce,
(and rando sprouts it didn’t need)
the sashimi roll (spicy tuna, yellowtail, seaweed salad, asparagus inside; topped with eel, salmon, avocado, fish roe, and 4 different sauces) — about as bells & whistles as a “sashimi” concoction can get & therefore unlikely to be a repeat order
Ridiculously filling, too.
And finally, 2 meaty white tuna nigiri. I coulda had more of that, TBH.
Collaborative easy dinner with friends: pork egg rolls, pork pot stickers, homemade dipping sauces, cucumber salad, and green salad. Plenty of drinks. It’s a Monday and we are both solo parenting.
First full day of Kitchen Rehab. Our small pad is turned upside down with bottles, jars, dishes, utensils, pots, pans, etc. as we pulled everything out of the cupboards and shelves. It turns out 50% of the “stuff” we own is kitchen related. I came up with a small pile of goods for a thrift store donation, and a half-a-bag of garbage (old condiments, empty cardboard boxes, un-reusable plastic bags, etc.), but basically, everything we have, we use - and frequently.
New paint is going up as I type.
WFD was a plate on our knees on a spare corner of the couch, everything made/prepped in advance: chili and chips, leftover whole-milk mozz from pizza night, and chopped scallion.
It was sunny and 70 today. I did lots of stuff. Dinner was shrimp salad (a bed of little gem, celery, green onion, sliced asparagus stem, topped with shrimp, hbe, cherubs, avocado, asparagus tips) with Louie dressing, toasted baguette, garlic butter & parsley. The computer ate the photo of my beautifully composed salad.
soup is not easy to make pretty - you did it!
In an effort to make something different with chicken, I prepared a Chicken & Vegetable Fried Rice. Its been a little while since I made this dish. I’m trying to add some type of variety to our “chicken” menu. Please let something besides chicken be on sale this week!
It’s so funny you say that, because I could (and d) eat chicken on repeat
(In the non-chicken arena, have you tried pizza beans? Like this – essentially beans in a pasta/pizza sauce topped with cheese, eaten with toast or garlic bread. You can add greens or other veg to the beans.)
What did you eat the barbacoa with? And how did you like it?
