Looks good.
Another dark and stormy night.
Italian-leaning chicken-zucchini meatballs in orzo with spinach and veg.
I have to give credit where it’s due: Atul Kochhar’s book, Benares, has some truly excellent recipes and this is just one of them.
“Another dark and stormy night”.
Same here.
Fully loaded potato soup. I sauteed onion, garlic and bacon, added potatoes, chicken broth and a bay leaf. When the potatoes were tender I mashed a few as a thickener and added milk and heavy cream. In my bowl I added a pat of butter, dollop of sour cream, sharp cheddar, bacon and green onion. Bbq ham on grilled sourdough sandwich. The cook had a spritzer.
We enjoyed another outstanding dinner at James on Main, in Hackettstown, NJ, including Iberico hog pluma with manchego polenta crouton, charred broccolini, roasted carrots, green olive & roasted garlic tapenade; tiger prawns with green papaya, mango, micro cilantro, peanut scallion vinaigrette; pan seared scallops with sunchoke puree, calabrian chili gremolata, sweet corn cake, sunchoke crisps; maple cured duck confit with butternut velvet, brown butter creme fraiche, purple sweet potatoes, apricot gastrique; crispy and creamy fries. It all went great with an excellent cabernet and red blend.
Tonight was thin-cut Vietnamese lemongrass pork chops with gai lan, rice, and quick nuoc cham. Love this meal.
.
Last night I stayed over at a friend’s so we could go to a basketball game with her family and generally hang out for longer than a quick dinner. We made Thai red curry with chicken and lots of vegetables — baby trumpet mushrooms, broccoli, onion, and carrots.
I also roasted tofu crusted with red curry paste because she loves tofu, but left it on the side because the kids don’t.
She asked that we make enough for two meals, pics are of the leftovers.
First time that the kids ate Thai curry and it was a big hit, so I left a can of curry paste and wrote out the “recipe” to inaugurate her recipe box.
The kids and I made blondies for dessert, and we got also got really delicious ice cream from their favorite local place.
Fun poker night with Indian takeout from a different place bc our regular joint had closed early for delivery — probz due to Thon weekend. Its a thing here.
Another very bangin’ bharta (pretty kicky, too!) and saag paneer for us, a fish vindaloo & fish curry for the others (two in our party had already dined before attending a jazz gig and joining us later). No pics bc brown stuff in takeout containers isn’t very appealing, and once it was on our plates it went quickly into our gullets
We sent our friends home with the leftovers bc I’d already made plans to use up leftovers in our house for dinner tonight.
The residents of Casa Lingua cleaned out the table after a bumpy start.

I had an incredible asparagus custard with pecorino sauce at a restaurant outside of Lucca I’ll never forget. Both the food and wine were dirt cheap, too.
That albacore tuna dish sounds great, too. Jimmy Nardello peppers must be The New Thing on menus these days.
More of that spicy mentaiko sauce I picked up in Japantown for dinner at my sister’s last night, this time with ramen noodles, plus prawns I marinated for about 20 mins. in mirin, salt, sesame oil, minced garlic and ginger, then sauteed. Turned out great!
Nice, yum!
i’m going to have to give them another shot. I reviewed them for Mission Local (local online news site) when they first opened and was underwhelmed with a few of the dishes. But they seem to still be going strong, and your dishes look great, so i’ll try them again.
this is something i must replicate!
that lamb looks scrumptious!
You won’t find it difficult.
Revisiting Saveur’s Dilly Salmon Pasta Salad with Caraway Breadcrumbs tonight, specifically so I can have leftovers in the fridge ready to go after work for dinner. I recommend doubling the mustard and horseradish called for in the recipe!
Romaine and vegetable salad, Buffalo style, leftover rotisserie chicken, red wine vinaigrette and Parm/Regg
I made meatless kimchi jiggae adding zucchini and, as per Maangchi, a lil sugar. I had mine over a little rice.
