What's For Dinner #114 - the 1st Quarter Century Edition - January 2025

A rainy, chilly day called for mostly staying home, save for a trip to Wegmans, TJ’s, and Aldi. Wegmans for their fabulous chuck & brisket patties and sharp American cheese, TJ’s for their hawtt & sweet Italian sausages for my Sunday potluck, and Aldi for their fluffy sesame brioche buns & the gem lettuce mix I’d promised to pick up for our elderly neighbor who’s down with a cold, and who loves it just as much as I do

Cheeboygahs WFD: aforementioned bunz & patties, sharp American, thiccc-sliced red onion, shredded iceberg, and a boygah sauce with ketchup, brown mustard, Duke’s and finely chopped German-style pickles I unearthed from the depths of our fridge. L&W hand-cut fries with MOAR ketchup and kewpie for dippin’. Mexicoke on the rocks to drank with.

I can’t remember the last time we had a burger (Philly, mabez?), so this really hit the spot :yum:

Lamb and Weston–Seeing Possibilities In Potatoes!

But where did you get them? The website says they sell to food services.

Most supermarkets here carry them :slightly_smiling_face:

Only if you bring your cats along

Garlicky mushrooms and chicken breasts (with bacon) from Food52 and as shared by @BeefeaterRocks. Served over curly egg noodles, with salad greens in vinaigrette on the side.

Pretty darn delicious. Probably richer and more complicated than I would opt for on a week night, but def worth keeping in mind for when the situation calls for something rich, smokey, hot, and creamy. :yum:

All my darling’s work — well, save for the unsightly burger sauce

Ground pork patty, onion, thyme, gg, s&p, breaded and fried with pork gravy. Colcannon with kale, green onion and butter puddle. Mixed greens, red onion, yellow pepper, tomato, avocado, ranch salad. Uisce.

Mrs. P made sausage, peppers, and onions. It went great with an excellent Zinfandel.

Another BF salad, this time Japanese-esque, with my favorite sesame dressing, crispy tofu on the side, and rice. This combo is so satisfying to me!

He made himself some sauteed veggies over rice with an omelet atop (pseudo omurice!), and TJ’s soup dumplings on the side

Cuban inspired pork tacos from Lorena Garcia’s New Taco Classics - cubed pork tenderloin get marinated in a mix of garlic, oregano, thyme, olive oil, orange juice and zest as well as lemon juice and zest. After half a day the meat gets pan seared before quickly oven roasted and finally put under the broiler to brown. Served with lightly caramelized white onions (made with lime juice and white wine vinegar) and cilantro on corn tortillas

Roman rice balls. They’re usually smaller than arancini, and are not round like an orange (arancini means orange.)

The fried cacio looked like this
