What's for Dinner #112 - the "Pre-Holiday Crazies" Edition - November 2024

We were still pretty stuffed from our late-ish, lavish lunch at the time we were meeting up with a friend who was in town from PGH for his teenage daughter’s roller derby bout — btw, how bad-ass is that??? Srsly if that had been an option in my youth I woulda loved it. Now I manage to injure myself just by walking around the apartment

I wish we’d had more appetite than for a couple orders of very good XLB — one order of spicy pork

and one order of crab & pork,

plus shrimp & pork shumai we decidedly did not need.

I found them too large for my taste. A rendition I had in Toronto in 2017 at a dumpling place was far more delicate, smaller, and the shrimp flavor more pronounced.

We shared the stir-fried Shanghai bok choy with our dining companions

and ended up taking 4 of the crab & pork XLB home. Wonderful crab flavor, plump dumplings, nice, rich broth, and tender skins. We’ll def have to go back before we leave…… maybe when our bellies aren’t still coated in Taleggio and burrata
