We went and ate at one of the restaurants that fed us right after the storm. Many feels.
Charcoal grilled burgers again. Topped with cheddar, bacon and grilled onions. When he saw me frying up the last two bacon slices in the package he said what about some French fries with onion in the bacon grease with added oil. Okie Dokie.
Glad you have power!
A meat-lover’s pizza with pepperoni, mild Italian sausage, black olives, and three cheeses. Mixed salad greens in a standard 3:1 vinaigrette to go with.
Carnitas tacos with tomatillo salsa for taco Tuesday. I got some blue and purple masa from a farmers market last week from Bolita out of Berkeley, CA which made some very good tortillas with a lot of corn flavor.
All of that looks delicious! All the taco tuesdays (@Amandarama and @Mr_Happy too) making me jealous and hungry again – after I already ate dinner
Had a busy cooking evening to finish making Diwali treats (mainly for my little nephew), so hunger crept on me.
Quick solution was Viet Umami Garlic Noodles topped with the last piece of the Vietnamese lemongrass grilled pork chops from the other day. Napa cabbage and king oyster mushrooms in the noodles. Not complaining, it was a delicious quick-fix!
.
Oven roasted cauliflower (in a spice mix of fennel, cumin and coriander seeds, cloves and turmeric) served over greek yoghurt (with lime juice and zest) and with plenty of herbs (parsley, dill, cilantro, mint), roasted almonds, toasted puffed rice and nigella seeds (and two wiener wuerstchen)
We’re lucky it didn’t go out. I live on the 11th floor of a highrise apartment and it’s quite a light show up here when there’s a thunderstorm.
Beautiful, warm fall day today, so what do I do? I make a batch of Ossobuco and have soup for dinner
The shanks were done “Macedonian style” aka, the way my Mom used to make veal stew. My sister gifted me the veal(cryo-vac) in the summer, so I figured I’d make stew out of them.
Turned out really well if I do say so myself Soup was the Kale/chorizo/potato and bean from the other day.
Spent the morning waiting for the new replacement water heater to be installed (thankfully under warranty, so only the labor and some other fees). The first one he got was banged up, so he had to go back for another one at the supply house.
Had to run the faucets throughout the house, and had to run an empty washer to get rid of the brown water. I think it’s gone.
A quick, simple dinner tonight, because I’m hungry…but I’m not. A roasted BISO Frankenchicken breast lightly brushed with olive oil, roasted at 400° for 25 minutes, brushed with the fat in the pan and sprinkled with Spicewalla’s Honey and Herb seasoning blend and finished roasting.
Steamed asparagus as the lone side.
Water.
DH made lemony shrimp Alfredo pasta and I whipped up some green beans amandine. I had vanilla ice cream with local caramel sauce topped with flaky sea salt for dessert.
The Baked Fish in Lemon Cream Sauce from Recipe Tin Eats that has been well spoken of around here. I par cooked some red potato and fennel and added it to the casserole with everything else (used sole for my fish). There’s also green peas in the bowl, but they are hiding. Not bad and certainly easy enough on a week night.
We made the excellent decision to grab a sunset brew at Bok Bar, a rooftop bar in South Philly on top of the Bok Building, which has a rich history and is now a shared workspace for artists, nonprofits, community projects, etc. etc — when we walked in we passed a gymnastics class for girls & I was in awe of their talent
I knew the view would be great, but I wasn’t prepared for just how spectacular it was going to be.
The light while the sun was setting was absolutely incredible.
I’m so glad we made it there before they close the doors Nov 3 until April — it had been on my list, and the ridiculous summer temps were perfect for it.
Since we’re going out tomorrow & Friday, we had leftovers at home: the Peruvian chicken from Monday night & Beecher’s frozen mac my PIC had grabbed for himself on one of his recent bach nights.
It may be “the best frozen mac & cheese,” but I didn’t care for it much: it’s penne — strike #1, and I found it to be both greasy and dry at the same time — strike #2 & #3. I would’ve preferred mac from the blue box over this.
I also made a salad, of course
Margaritas and mabez the ball game for dessert.
Wow! Great pics of the spectacular sunset
Broiled razor clams, braised romanesco stems (part of my “waste nothing” vow). The clams were killer. The stems…I was happy to make use of them.
Perfect dinner for a water heater replacement.
