We’d signed up for a dinner at a Turkish place with random strangers from a foodie group on MeetUp. We were a group of 10 with a nice variety of provenance & age. Two dudes with an Indian background (one raised in India, one born & raised in Southern Georgia, and who happens to live right across the street from our pad! :exploding_head:), a guy from Jordan, a guy from NJ who took the train in for this dinner, a dude from Baltimore who runs his own food gatherings there, and a couple of others who sat too far away to find out more. A lively, friendly group united by the love of food & the curiosity to meet strangers

The food was good. Everyone ordered their own dish, and my PIC and I shared the baba ganoush

which was excellent, the lamb Adana kebab was a little dry —when I inquired about the lamb tail fat the server had no idea what I was talking about,

but I’ve long curbed my expectations for Turkish food compared to what we get in Berlin :woman_shrugging:t3: They first brought out a plate of their special that day, döner,

for the table to try. I thought the meat was nicely seasoned and the right amount of fatty and lambiness, but not many at the table had much interest in it. The guy who lives across the street from us got the falafel plate with 5 large ballz,

one guy the very good looking (homemade) manti,

and the dude next to me the iskender kebap,

which looked really great. Massive portions, as is usually the case with Turkish food.

We didn’t know that it was BYOB & didn’t come prepared, but the guy from Bawlmer was nice enough to share some of his :wine_glass:

Looking forward to future dinners.

I’m Noomin’. Sautéed lean pork chop finished in the oven. Sage, apple and chicken broth sauce. Roasted potatoes and roasted green beans. 100g of each. Pretty tasty! As of Tuesday we are empty nesters. We dropped baby off to start college, and older son is also at uni. I’ve been waiting until I was done momming daily in order to feed myself exactly what I need and not cook/eat what everyone else needs. My husband is mostly fine with this and he will just get his extra calories via snacks. Wish me luck!

This sad little bowl was my dinner - Half a packet of A’Kuan Chongqing Mala Spicy Noodles that had been sitting around forever, and tonight was chilly and misty so I decided to make them instead of the salad the BF was going to make. He was nice enough to make me a soy boiled egg to go with. I didn’t add enough water at first because i really wanted a bowl of noodles instead of soup, but I used the whole flavor packet of what was actually a very concentrated broth. So, pretty danged salty, but at least the spicy sauce packet delivered the ma la. I kept adding boiling water after i plated until I got a decent flavor/consistency.

BF ate leftovers of his spectacularly delicious meatloaf and tomato sauce over polenta.
He won. :slightly_smiling_face:

Pizza looks great, wine sounds like one I’d like, and the Little Beggar is adorable!

What a fun idea! Very varied backgrounds for you all…but all with a love of food.

Roasted shrimp, okra and maitakes. This came out very well, although it took a lot of babysitting, because the three ingredients take different amounts of time to cook.

Corn, tomato, peaches and basil. Dessert salad!

Yes, we were surprised how international our table was. Pleasantly so

The S Georgian kid has 2 bananas and a glass of water every day for breakfast, and has been doing so since childhood :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

He also told us that he didn’t like any of the Indian places in town, so I guess we can skip those. Lots of other cuisines to try.

Thanks John!
That’s a nice compliment from such a skilled pizzaiola as you

I can’t wait to see your amazing pizza combination tonight!

Thank you! The pizza was delicious; creamy from the ricotta and delicata squash, and spicy from the Andouille sausage and hot honey.
The wine was fantastic and very inexpensive (under $20). It reminded me of my other favorite red blend (Cooper and Thief). You can find it at Total Wine (which has about 8 stores in Massachusetts).

Delicata on pizza is a great idea. It is my favorite squash by a very large nose

Yes, the delicata squash adds a nice creaminess to the pizza and goes great with hot honey.

This was actually Thursday’s dinner after a long day of meetings in our state capital 110 miles and a giant traffic jam away. Boiled some locally made pasta - paccheri from Pasta Lab- took it out not quite finished, poured off most of the pasta water leaving the thickest of the water behind. Added some wedges of heirloom tomatoes that were nearing end of life and simmered. Added a mix of sautéed chicken of the woods and royal trumpets I had leftover from a prior flat bread. Returned pasta to the pot and added lots of parm stirring madly. Got the good creamy sauce to happen. Dumped into the bowl with a handful of arugula drizzled with olive oil . Hit the spot and only dirtied one pot!

Lazy Saturday @casa ‘delphia. Did a lil grocery shopping, chilled, caught up on NYers while my dood watched soccer. Brauhaus Schmitz, a cavernous and popular if mediocre German restaurant was hosting a ginormous Oktoberfest bash, for which a block of South Street was closed off.

We thought it might be fun to stroll over for a late afternoon beer, but it was an absolute zoo — perhaps no surprise, but I’m just not a fan of large crowds, and this one was overwhelmingly half our age. There was a live band playing traditional German folk gems such as “Shut up & Dance with me,” and “La Bamba”  — at least that was the soundtrack to our swift escape. We tried the Portuguese bar for a Superbock or two, but it was packed as well, plus their a/c seemed to be out of order.

In the end we saved a buncha cash by making our way back home, stopping in the Viet market for a few items, and grabbing a BAB of Milagro for my PIC’s spectacular margaritas.

Hey, at least we got a nice walk in

WFD was a couple leftover slices of Angelo’s aMAZing Diavlo pie THAT CRUSTTTT & ‘my’ arugula salad. Simples.
