Carnitas tacos with a side of beans
Peach and strawberries for dessert
I f’n hate it. Maybe it’s a German thing? I do like Dr. Pepper tho. Is Dr. Pepper the Almdudler of the US? Have you had Ananaskracherl? Oh, the memories.
Dr. Pepper is one of the better soft drinks (and perhaps the Almduddler of the US). Never heard of Ananaskracherl but it looks good. I wish one could get Swiss Rivella in the US
I chose well in joining my PIC and his buddy for a meal upstairs, bc it was buddy’s treat to celebrate my PIC’s book.
I had a couple of highballs, a very good arugula salad with goat cheese, corn, pickled onion and tomatoes,
and the scallop crudo with cantaloupe aguachile,
while also sharing a few bites of my PIC’s beef tartare with potato chips
and the cheese toast with random prosciutto and scattered tomatoes.
This was actually much better than it looked
Warm rolls from a local bakery with sea salt and butter were lovely as well.
Pretty much left the doodz right after putting down my fork & joined a lively lady night downstairs. Really nice to catch up with everyone
My dad tried to convince 8 or 9yr old me that the pineapples for the Ananaskracherl were grown in the Austrian Alps
It’s not top of my list, but I can drink it, along with Cream Soda. The only soda I drink now is a very occasional ginger ale. And ginger beer for summertime Moscow Mules. I never drank soda a lot when I was young; we didn’t have it in the house. But when I did drink it, it was Pepsi over Coke. Now both are way too sweet for me (although I’ve not had a Mexican Coke in a bottle, which I understand is true to the original Coca-Cola).
I really don’t like Mountain Dew, Dr. Pepper, Fresca, Fanta Orange, DESPISE anything “grape” (because yeah - it’s not “grape”) and not crazy about tonic water or club soda, although a splash of club soda in my sangria is required.
As a kid with a much more pronounced sweet tooth (a tautology, I suppose) & access to US soda, which was super-exotic to me, I loved Mt. Dew, Dr. Pepper, Welch’s grape soda, and Canada Dry’s Cherry soda.
The only thing I can abide now is the occasional Mexicoke or Diet Dr. Pepper, which I still think is the most palatable diet soda. But I really don’t drink much of any soda, generally.
This entire meal looks sooooo good!
Thank you!!
My mom did keep sodas in our house since my two older sisters liked them - especially the middle sister. I never liked the sickly sweet fizziness of them although I have no problem drinking prosecco And I agree grape anything is disagreeable. Whenever my mom organized birthday parties for me she would always remind me to ask the other kids what kind of sodas they liked reminding me that just because I don’t like sodas doesn’t mean no one likes sodas
Can’t stand root beer or anything root beer like.
A local restaurant used to have a very good pork belly app. Then they ruined it by braising it in root beer
Heresy!
IKR? Why ruin a perfectly good dish?
Root Beer floats are my summer treat. My favorite is Virgil’s or Boylan if I can find it. Lately I have been enjoying Cuba Libres with Mexican coke. I don’t drink any soda with without alcohol or ice cream.
There is a meat seller at one of my local farmers market who sells beef tongue along with other offal. He sometimes has good sales on the tongue and I stock up. I actually think it might be calf tongue because is is smaller than what you see at the market. So good.
My DH will sometimes order root beer if we eat at a clam shack or mom & pop burger bar. I don’t care for any soda pop anymore, with the exception of Vernor’s Ginger Ale - a Michigan specialty. Nicely spiced. Sadly not sold in New England. It’s good for a stomachache - we always got it as kids in the midwest when we were sick. It’s good as a float with vanilla ice cream and it’s even better on the rocks with bourbon.
It’s sold in FL and VA for some reason, so on the rare occasion that we have houseguests drive to visit from one of those states, a case of Vernor’s is the price of admission. I enjoy it when I go to Ohio to visit my family but I typically fly when I go, so I can’t bring it home.
That lamb…be still my heart
I’ve had Vernor’s ginger ale, it is or was available here in Oregon. With bourbon on the rocks of course.
I prefer ginger beer over ginger ale, especially if it’s one with a nice bite you can feel in your nose!
