Take-out sabich pita from The Haifa Room in Toronto. It contains fried eggplant, sliced hard-boiled egg, red cabbage salad, schug, tahini and amba.
I saw you hopped on over to the HO Dinners in Philadelphia thread
I’m up for pretty much anything and everything, but that market is high on my list!
OMG I corn on pizza! My favorite order at the pizza joint I delivered for in the last century was one half corn, tuna, onions, the other half ham, spinach, mushrooms.
We have tix to a showing of Nosferatu with a live orchestra at a movie theater down the road from us for tonight, for which a Canuck friend and some rando my PIC knows will be joining us.
We’re having them over for pre-game snacks, i.e. assorted formaggi & salumi, grilled zucchine & melanzane, and German pickles.
Wine or wine spritzers with — choice between Grillo & a summery, juicy Sardinian rosé plus Gerolsteiner, The Best GD Mineral Water on the Planet.
Might not need dinner after the show
Love Haircut/Scallop Day!!!
Thanks again for the recipe. I made these last night and it was very tasty and everyone liked it.
We had a tiny dinner party tonight, for my uncle and aunt, and their (local) daughter and son in law. (Mostly vegetarian because 3/4 of them are.)
Menu was Malvani chicken curry, Malvani soya nuggets (mock mea) and mixed vegetable curry, Sichuan spice crusted paneer, vegetable cutlets, Mac & cheese (my mom always has one gratin-type western dish on her party table), fresh dinner rolls of two kinds — soft and crusty, and jeera pulao.
Dessert was a childhood throwback: cake & custard, though the cake was a new-style carrot cake, not the plain sponge of old.
Lovely evening for mom, for my uncle (who also desperately misses my dad), and for all of us. My cousin is the baby of the family, almost 20 years younger than the oldest (there were 14 of us), and it’s lovely to engage with her as an adult, because we were all gone one by one while she was growing up, and she missed all the big, fun family stuff that used to happen in the old days.
Risotto with asparagus, peas, shrimp & mushrooms. I forgot the wine. I guess I didn’t miss it, 'cause I didn’t remember that I forget the wine 'til this morning. It’s been a while since I made risotto.
Einspruch, Einspruch !! Geroldsteiner is awful - way too salty and ruins everything it touches. Bismarck is much better (or pretty much any other mineral water)
Striped bass fried using kataifi instead of bread crumbs. I originally saw this recipe on a cooking webinar Micheal Solomonov ran during the pandemic but never thought to make. When was looking for something in the freezer I came across a box of kataifi a light bulb. Served with a pretty boring salad with a great Caesar-Tahini dressing.

WOW!! What a unique and beautiful pizza!!
I love sabich!
I think they call them ribs.
Pesce all’acqua pazza, a Marcella Hazan recipe (Fish in Crazy Water). We had roasted broccoli rabe to accompany. Out of shot was some garlic bread. Still dealing with some rainy weather here…and a tornado watch until 8pm.
This pile of green was sesame garden kale salad, flashed garden chard with ginger, garlic, scallion, and diluted soy sauce, jasmine rice, and Filipino(?) bola bola glazed with apricot teriyaki.
We had a big, rich lunch and this was plenty. Now enjoying a mimosa and the quiet. It’s been a hot, busy weekend!
That’s the word I was looking for! Thanks
