Several of the people I know who follow a keto diet say they don’t miss carbs at all. I have no reason to disbelieve them. And I eliminated the entire meat group from my diet in 1979. I don’t feel I missed out on anything besides eating things I don’t like.
I could easily spend the rest of my days without rice, but I just don’t see the point.
More power to the keto folks, but I don’t buy into diet fads of any kind.
I’m not sure you can call low-carb a fad at this point. It’s old enough to just be “a method.”
Whatever you want to call it, I still call it nonsense
So, this would be your low-carb friends’ nightmare, I take it
TBH I don’t really get the “potato on bread” thing, either… but I also don’t get the floppy bread wrapped around rice & beans thing.
Thank you! They were creamy and delicious, with the crispy bacon being a nice contrast, (not to mention the funky blue cheese).
The garden should look even better in a month, when everything starts growing out.
Those flowers in Tivoli are gorgeous!
I am enjoying your daily food adventures. Thank you for sharing.
Also, you are an extremely talented singer, with a beautiful sultry voice, and your sax player is a keeper
Thank you so much, that is very kind of you! I absolutely agree about our sax/clarinet. We wouldn’t be the same without him, and I hope he sticks around for a very long time (he just turned 70 this year)
Good job, best wishes on many more!
The above meal would give anyone without a cast iron digestive system trouble!
My sister almost NEVER finishes anything she orders in a restaurant. She almost never cooks and intentionally over orders so that she can take leftovers home for one or two extra meals.
OTOH, I think the only time I have leftover food from food not prepared by me is when I have pizza delivered. I love leftover pizza and though I usually reheat it in a toaster oven, I’ve no qualms about eating leftover cold pizza.
I’m sure she would have eaten more of what she ordered if it hadn’t been that the breading was cornmeal, though. Thankfully the little bit she ate didn’t bother her stomach AND the leftovers won’t go to waste as I’ll eat them and what I brought home divided over a few meals with a side salad.
So glad that you are feeling better and that your sister is okay.
Sorry to hear it’s been one of those weeks but at least you have a long weekend coming up to look forward to?
Thank you! I’m glad as well!
Yes. But THAT weekend came up faster than I expected. Earlier this week I thought “Gilda’s brakes are squealing; I should make an appt for the weekend before Memorial Day weekend, since I’m busy this coming Saturday.”
Then I realized that this WAS the weekend before Memorial Day weekend. :::Sigh:::
We had a fairly smooth trip back…… that is, if you don’t count the security guy first telling me my bag for liquids was too big, then taking the sealed bottle of contact lens solution I’d purchased in CPH bc I was out & Monday is a holiday in Germany, telling me it was too much, and that I had to throw it out.
I got so frustrated about the whole thing – the money spent needlessly, the dumbass rule (I’ve never had issues taking these 120ml bottles in carry-on), and most of all wondering how to store my contacts until Tuesday… that I did what every self-respecting middle-aged woman would do: I started crying
That thankfully seemed to do the trick, as the security guy inspected the solution again, asked if this was “medical” (I confirmed), then let me take it. FFS
Our connections in Berlin were dandy, and so our OG plan was to hit up a dumpling place up the road. However, once we were showered and got laundry going, we were feeling lazy & instead ordered delivery from a hand-pulled noodle place nearby. It now has 3 branches after starting out in our hood a couple of years ago, and each one has lines around the block. We’ve been meaning to try it, but won’t stand on line for food.
Delivery came within 15 min of ordering: biang biang noodz with lamb & cumin, 2 chili pepper hot (perfect!), and smashed cukes.
After very good but also very mild-flavored foods the last few days, this really hit the spot, and we didn’t even have to get out of our jammies
I def want to try the noodz with eggplant, and we’d absolutely get the lamb & cumin noodz again as well.
Now it’s time for a proper martini made by my dearest, and a Mads Mikkelsen movie cuz we miss that lovely language already
Sending hugs your way.
My lazy attempt at a “tortilla vaga “ aka lazy omelette. Fridge clean out, so there were way too many ingredients, tomatoes, asparagus, mushrooms, feta and scallions. New nonstick pan worked great, maybe a tad bit small for this application, but cooking is always a learning experience . Taste was spot on and I even used the Kenji 15 minute pre salting method for the eggs. A couple of hash browns on the side.
The pans I bought from Amazon, 2 for $55 which is a great deal if you ask me.
Last photo is the tortilla vaga(Sacha, Madrid I was trying to kinda/sorta recreate

Basa fillet with asparagus and cherry tomatoes cooked en papillote. I drizzled a little evoo over the veggies.
Inspired by a local chain (Tavern In The Square) - loaded tater tots with chorizo, roasted corn, serrano chiles, tomato, scallions, cilantro, cojita cheese, and crema. I am soo full now!
I agree. I don’t want asparagus that is nearly raw.
