I had incredible biang biang noodles (with braised beef, cumin lamb, and eggplant, respectively) in Berlin this summer.
I’m familiar with Nan Zhou hand-pulled noodles, but it doesn’t seem quite the same…

I forget how tiny the HO contingent is in the city of brotherly love. Looks like there’s nothing comparable around these parts. Kind of surprising.
I’ll check out Xi’an Sizzling Woks some time, I guess.
I really miss @JTPhilly
Do you know why they left?
I don’t
It’s kind of crazy too, given how much good food is in Philly.
It really is. My list of places to try keeps growing, too
Looks like someone, (maybe you?) asked the same question on Reddit
I did not, but will check pronto! Merci!
ETA: Just did. Xi’an Sizzling Wok and Spice C seem good contenders
I think you know this already but, looks like they both have a bunch Chinese American Crap as well as Xi’an or Szechuan Dishes. I would be careful to avoid those.
My two favorite Sichuan places back home also have a bunch of CA crap on their menus. I just don’t order any of it
They both came up in the reddit thread you linked to, btw.
I still remember Xi’an Sizzling Woks. I still remember when it opens.
Biang Biang noodle is not the typical hand pulled noodle, so your Xi’an Sizzling Woks is a better try. It is on their menu.
(not sure if the price is still accurate)
Yup, saw that, and ready to try it. Ideally, it would come with cumin lamb or braised beef or fried eggplant, i.e. the way I had it in Berlin, but given the dearth of places offering biang biang noodz in Philly, beggars like moi can’t be choosers.
Good luck. My guess is that… give it a try, and if you like it, then add in the lamb/beef which I am sure they can do for you. Let me know how you like it. I had it years ago, and remember liking it. However, that was before I had many Xi’an dishes (so I was probably at a stage that I just like everything)
I’m sure the ginger scallion sauce is lovely
