What's For Dinner #106 - the Sneezles & Wheezles Season Edition - May 2024

BF made me a Greek-ish salad tonight, with some parm toasts.

got very good news about my cholesterol today, so i’m as happy as a low-cholesterol clam.

just in time to eat EVERYTHING IN SIGHT on my trip to NYC tomorrow night! :star_struck:

i will, of course be reporting back.

Biscuit dough stuffed with salami and Provolone cheese and dusted with parmesan cheese baked (cooked?) in an electric sandwich maker.

For dessert, some California bing “double” cherries. Each stem had conjoined cherries like this 「:cherries: 」. Apparently that makes them less appealing to consumers and they were priced at only $1.99 lb (I bought 1.75 lbs) which seems quite reasonable to me this early in the season. All I care is that they taste good…which they do I got them at La Bonita supermarket, my favorite market here in Las Vegas now.

Last week mini watermelons were $0.99 each, cantaloupe was 3 lbs for $1.00. This week, small as they may be, avocados are just 4 for $1.00.

Black tie event to honor a friend tonight. Dinner was surprisingly good — asparagus and beet salad to start along with a croissant roll, main of wagyu sirloin, roasted vegetables, and fondant potato, and ricotta cheesecake for dessert

I pre-gamed with half a spinach and feta shortcut gozleme (using a handmade flour tortilla) because dinner gets late at these things, and cocktails start early and go long :flushed:.

Try 2˚C at night here! I love cold nights, tho. Beats last year’s temps of 27˚C

I was doing a quick scroll through the thread since I haven’t posted anything since the weekend, and all I saw as I scrolled was a lemon peel dinosaur perched on your glass.

A few, but not a lot*, as I know May can be cold here (as can June, July, and August). From last year’s Left in Berlin notes to myself:

“For next year: bring ONE sweater only. No jeans. TWO shirts at the most, fewer dresses, fewer tights, fewer shoes. Less of everything. DON’T BRING THAT FUCKING BLOW DRYER AGAIN IT DOES NOT WORK HERE. DUMBASS.”

I pulled out some b/s chicken breasts a couple of nights ago to defrost, thinking I’d make chicken salad.

Nope. Didn’t feel like that, but I had to cook them.

Came up with a quick lemon-shallot cream sauce after pan-sautéing them in olive oil. Sliced and served on basmati rice with green beans alongside. It was meh. No pics.

And I’m kind of ticked at myself that I have TWO full chickie boobies to eat up. Oh well.

Make them into soup for lunch?

Would anyone here with a subscription be willing to summarize the remaining instructions. I can guess but…

So in other words, don’t bring clothes?

I tend to buy a bunch of stuff here, so it’s wise to keep some suitcase space

It was a gorgeous, sunny day, so we mozied on over to the best ice cream parlor in the city… hey – gotta get those steps in! :joy:

I got 3 “kid-sized” scoops so I could try more than 2 flavors for a change: coconut / mango / black sesame, pear sorbet, and white chocolate ice cream with salted pistachios and caramel. Oh, my. The pear sorbet was on the tart side & probably my least favorite, but the other two were fab, the white chocolate in particular.

My PIC got the chocolate hazelnut sorbet, and it may have just been the creamiest, richest, most luscious sorbet I’ve ever had

As for din-din, we tried a döner kebab place around the corner from us. Good döner is hard to come by in our hood – the good ones are all in other nabes with a larger Turkish population, whereas ours is known as Family, Hipster, and Hipster Family Central   , but it’s newly opened & had good reviews on Google.

We felt like a sit-down meal, so we shared a döner plate – basically a deconstructed döner kebab minus the pita. A large portion & def enough for two peeps.

Ayran for me, OG coke for da man. Good stuff, and under $20 :boom:

PS: For those interested in the show I was fretting about for months, it’s available for streaming here: https://video.wpsu.org/video/natascha-the-spy-boys-0hw76r/

I never thought about it before but, a creative drizzle of cream would be a nice way to garnish a solid soup, such as yours, like the barista art with coffee.
