Dinnah: shrimp & broccoli with brown sauce from the WoL website with 6 bird peppers for heat , bok choy instead of broccoli, a couple of sliced shiitake, and I doubled the sauce bc I like it saucy. I’d bought a bunch of gai lan as well, but worried it was just gonna be too much food - TBH I coulda used a bit more green in there, didn’t account for the shrinkage

A ridiculous amount of shrimp bc I didn’t want to leave just 4-5 in the bag. Served over rice.

My lips are still tingling. Perfect amount of heat

I prefer bbq sauce!

Impossible Burgers and celery sticks. Benefitted from a light cook this time.

I foresee snacks.

I had felt better today than the past 2-3 days…until I had a 10 minute coughing fit early afternoon, which ended up making me sick to my stomach and left me barely able to breathe for at least a half hour. So I’m whupped after that and a brief visit to CVS and Market Basket in the morning for a few things. I expect to sleep well tonight!

I repurposed the 2 cooked rockfish fillets today, reheating them gently in coconut milk with curry powder and pineapple, and that hit the spot.

The rest of the pineapple went into my Rancho Gordo version of this. Fresh pineapple , a couple slices of bacon, and my maple ginger King City Pink Beans, with more pepper and crushed chiles added. My version was lower salt. No added salt, no BBQ sauce added, just a glug of ketchup.

Yikes. Take care! I’ve been there in the last year and it was awful.

Yeah, this hasn’t been fun. I can’t recall the last time I had a cough this bad. I checked the expiration date on my Mucinex-D package, and it was July 2019. And only 3 pills had been busted out. So it’s been awhile! I picked up some more today, along with more cough syrup. I already had the family pack of honey-lemon cough drops. Hoping it clears soon, but based on coworkers’ and friends’ experiences who have had it or something similar, it’s probably wishful thinking. :crossed_fingers:

I ended up getting prescription cough suppressant pearls, a torn pec muscle, and a Z Pac. I hope yours goes better than expected. Really steamy hot showers and an inhaler seemed to help some, some of the time. But the hard drugs finally took the edge off enough for me to start getting better! Blergh. Coughs suck.

How was it?

I had been hoarding the last Rx of codeine cough syrup a former PCP had prescribed, using it VERY judiciously to help me sleep in years past if I had a persistent cough. It ALWAYS helped calm the urge to cough. When I went to use it Thursday night, I realized it was prescribed in 2009 and saw that it had grown a mother inside. Ummm, yeah, I’m done with that bottle. LOL

I’ve not heard of cough suppressant pearls., but sounds like the codeine cough syrup. Without the codeine.

We liked the fish better in the coconut curry, and we liked the pineapple and bacon combination with the beans.

I used a fresh pineapple, which I think made the beans tangier than a canned pineapple in syrup.

I would make pineapple and bacon beans again.

I only used a few pieces of bacon to 1/2 lb dried beans that were cooked, maybe 2 tbsp of ketchup, so my version was a lot less salty than a recipe using canned beans and 12 ounces of bacon. The Paula Deen recipe has a ton of sodium.

Casual dinner featuring a couple of really well executed dishes from " Mr. Congee, Richmond Hill "

  1. ‘Stir fried Chinese Kale aka Gai Lan with sliced beef’.
Tons of smoky wok-hay aroma. Tender, nicely seasoned beef, well caramelized!
  2. ‘Stir fried Rice Vermicelli with assorted BBQ meats, Prawns and Chinese pickles in a
    sweet and sour sauce’.
Again, packed full of wok-hay taste and aroma. Well seasoned with
generous amount of ingredients and tossed with tasty sauce. One of the best
    rendition in town!

Yum, looks so good.

Improbably, because I wasn’t paying all that much attention and didn’t work very hard, this was one of my better soondubu jigaes. I usually shortcut making the pepper paste and just use gochuchang, but mine has dried out so much it’s practically jerky, so I had to actually (heavy sigh) combine gochugaru with fish sauce, which I had to (even heavier sigh) decant from its container, as said container had become clogged with crystallized clumps. Oh, the humanity. Anyway…

A little ugly, but trust me, it came out good. Shrimp, spinach, radish, carrot, onion and (obviously) tofu.
