That sounds like a perfect family dinner to me, Susan. I think my favorite fish, after lobster, is fresh salmon. Cheers and cin cin!
Nope. I’ve become allergic to eggplant (Really, universe? Really?), and I’m guessing there’s soy sauce in the bok choy…? S’okay. More for you
Cider glazed chicken breast, celeriac puree, roasted seckel pear, golden beets & brussels sprouts, and a salad of shaved pear, celery & purple shiso.
Avocado is very high in histamine. I can eat it now, but couldn’t a year ago. Same with eggplant.
Late to the party on this thread
I’ll try to catch up.
I was on a shredded brussel sprouts kick with a big bag of sprouts purchased at Costco awhile back.
Salmon and wahoo dishes utilizing the sprouts
I just got a new bag today so more to come…
Got to say while scrolling through this thread, that there are amazing meals being made. They all look fantastic
No soy sauce in the bok choy, AFAIK. Bummer about the eggplant allergy.
No purtty pics of tonight’s dinner - too hungry.
Made a tomato/red pepper/feta/red onion salad just dressed with Greek olive oil, oregano, s&p and a tiny splash of RWV.
The ‘main event’ was thinly sliced pork loin chops I rubbed with a mix of fennel pollen, toasted cumin, lemon pepper, cayenne, paprika, thyme, oregano & rosemary.
Salty but good.
Tonight is the first game of the KINGS (hockey) season tonight so we are planning to watch with some pizza and salad. There will be wine and hopefully a lot of King’s goals. GKG!!
Halle-freaking-lujah! I have been bereft for days, mourning the exodus from that other place of so many of the excellent home cooks that have inspired me. Dinner tonight was Coconut-Braised Chicken with Chorizo and Potatoes the cover recipe from the Oct issue of F&W and a green salad. I confess to taking liberties, scaling down for one, using what I had on hand including a large bone in chicken breast with wing attached. End result was delicious. Fall has definitely arrived so the brown liquor came out of hiding for cocktails before and there was wine with. I am doing my happy dance, so glad I found y’all.
Thanks Gretchen! And I’m now craving a cheeseburger
Agree with the threaded conversations - that would be great.
Half-caramelized onions (let them go for maybe half an hour, could have gone more) with a can of baked beans and poorly-browned Polish sausage slices (half warm and half scorched–not my best work). I’d rather rush the sausage than the onions.
Never posted on WFD on the other place - the threads always looked so long and involved. But this is just the beginning for this new and welcoming (and relaxing!!!) site. No pics from last night but will try to remember to get some when the dinners are pretty enough - some foods, tho very delicious, just do not look very good in photos to me. Usually too much brown tones.
Last night H came home with a whole black fish, local and fresh from the boat. I did my ‘cheat’ on en papillote. In a large casserole dish with a cover, lots of leeks, carrots, celery, peppers and tiny potatoes, laid the whole fish (stuffed with fresh herbs from the garden), butter slices on the fish and then covered fish with thinly sliced lemons. Baked for about 35 min at 400˚. A very easy one dish meal. Blackfish is so good!
Thanks S. It’s not a histamine thing - I only react to eggplant, and oddly enough my mom developed the same allergy as an adult. The first few times it happened I was hoping it would resolve, but it got progressively worse with repeated exposure, so no more eggplant for me
Last night was a bowl of cereal and then some slices of Battenberg while watching the final of the Great British Bake Off. Tonight is macaroni cheese with smoked salmon and rocket.
Tonight will be mexican polenta stuffed peppers from Moosewood’s Simple Suppers book. Only mine are going in a carnivorous direction with the addition of the last of the pulled pork from the weekend.

Some sorta green thing alongside. Maybe a cabbage slaw.
Gorgeous plates of food, Scubadoo, so appealing!
Thanks Gio
I finally discovered how to upload pictures. My Wed. dinner.
First time I’ve cooked in days! Upon returning home after 11 days away, I discovered broccoli, mushrooms, carrots, onions, red pepper and celery left by the house sitter. Deluxe! Didn’t have to go to the store or order delivery.
Broccoli-quinoa-cheddar-chickpea patties with a Russian dressing style sauce (this didn’t really go well with the patties) / sauteed mushrooms in sherry with some garlic and shallot / pureed vegetable soup from whatever didn’t go into the patties. Soup really needed some leeks and fennel. It was pretty lackluster.
