What's for breakfast? (2024)

Mine too  My favourite way of eating peanut butter is straight out of the jar with a spoon :yum:

Breakfast look delicious as usual  Are the Asian pears from your garden too?

Thank you! Yes. They started to produce in any quantity last year. I suspect by next year we’ll be overwhelmed (a good problem to have).

Asian pears are expensive in the grocery store so I’m suitably jealous

Last fall someone in my local freecycle group had some home gtown Jerusalem artichokes to give away and you don’t see them in the grocery store too often. The woman giving them away lives near my optometrists office and I happened to have an eye appointment coming up. So I asked her if I could have some and she said “Yes, how many pounds?”. When I picked them up she said she and her husband had just bought their first house the summer before and she always wanted a vegetable garden. So last summer she planted one including Jerusalem artichokes but they grew like a bad weed. Each person om freecycle that asked for some got a bag full of them. Needless to say I enjoyed every morsel of them while they lasted.

I’ve never eaten nor grown Jerusalem artichokes, but I’ve seen wheelbarrows full out by the sidewalk with a “free” sign.

What’s your favorite preparation for them?

ETA: Asian pears are expensive here, also. That’s why I was excited to try growing them.

(in case you are tempted to grow them, Jerusalem artichokes/ sunchokes can be invasive!)

Thanks for the head’s up! :astonished:

They’re also apparently very… gas producing. I’ve only had them roasted with a really lovely dip at a sushi restaurant that no longer offers them. Weird.

I just stirfry them with a bunch of other vegetables.

Just wondering if that comment was intended for me?

A bot comment was removed, so both @Amandarama’s and mine don’t make much sense anymore.
