Congrats on the new role. Best of luck
Thank you. Went from vegan bakery to the meat business. Go figure.

This was a good weekend to try out some steak for my continued work training. Grass-fed 10 oz NY Strip and 20 oz Cowboy. I am not the best griller of steak but I am learning. Scored a $25 used Weber on craigslist to upgrade from the Smokey Joe. Put too much garlic on and rushed the garlic bread, still delicious.

Below is a link to our Fourth of July alfresco dinner on the deck.
We enjoyed a nice Fourth of July alfresco dinner on the deck consisting of a hamburger topped with blue cheese and caramelized onions on a bed of arugula, and BBQ shrimp, with sides of mini peppers and TJ’s sweet potato fries. It all went great with an excellent malbec.

Mrs. P prepared another awesome dinner. Details and pictures in the below link.
Mrs. P prepared another awesome dinner tonight with enough leftovers for another dinner. She made deep fried soft shell crabs and avocados; figs stuffed with blue cheese and pine nuts; roasted delicata squash; asparagus, and a delicious sauce consisting of homegrown herbs, capers, and vermouth, to go with the crab and asparagus. It all went great with a nice Spanish Garnacha.

Mrs. P made an awesome spicy Asian fruit salad among other things. Details and pictures in the main WFD link below.
Mrs. P made an awesome very spicy Asian fruit salad from Top Chef contestant Gregory Gourdet. It contained galangal, red thai chili, and lemongrass among other exotic ingredients. She also made a refreshing corn salad to go with the main course of fork tender Cajun dry rubbed country ribs. Below is a link to the recipe. She just doubled the sugar. It all went great with a 2012 French Malbec.

Shoprite meal. Shrimp with garlic and other stuff. Have to learn patience to reduce sauces more but still tasty.

We enjoyed an excellent Amarone al fresco, on a beautiful evening, with Andouille pizza and homemade guacamole and chips. Pictures are in the main WFD thread below.

Didn’t turn out great mostly overcooked. I blame the cocktails. Veal hanger, corn from the garden, potatoes.

I want to also stress how important it is to cut across the grain when cutting your steak. The difference is huge and affects how you enjoy the cut of steak.
